  1. I believe it to be the air coming from the locker post skimmer. Both skimmer and locker are new and clean......

Tape the holes of the skimmer lid shut.  The air from the locker can drift back up through the drain hose and out the lid.  I like kalkwasser too like John mentioned, but throw it in your locker instead (a teaspoon every time you empty it is plenty).

  2. Okay, adding on to this thread...

trying to understand this a little...tried pming justin but he's too important to empty his inbox :)

Is it essentially a solenoid that cuts the input to the ro/di or does it use backflow to stop via an asov?

Basically, I've had an ro unit that was hard wired into my utility sink with a solenoid valve between the sink and the feed into the ro unit.  I had a float valve on the bucket that the ro unit fed and an asov but for whatever reason, if I forgot to turn off I'd still end up with a small flood.  I used to plug the solenoid valve into the power to turn on and unplug to turn off.

First, support@avastmarine.com will get your questions answered SUPER fast :)

The Barrel Tender uses a solenoid to turn the water off which in turn triggers your ASOV to turn off.  What the Tender really excels at though is turning it ON exactly when it is needed.  There are many ways to turn it off but the ON/OFF cycle when empty to full is a complete solution and saves $ on resin and more importantly time.  It is one of those products where I wish people reviewed it 2 years after purchase rather than a couple weeks after, once you use it for a while you pretty much forget about ever making water for top off.

  3. It's still going on, just a bit different than originally planned. I've been running my tank on the autofeeder since last October, and haven't fed anything manually since just after this past Christmas. We're continuing to work through design iterations in order to make something we can produce for a reasonable price but is still easy to use and nice looking. When that will happen is unknown, but rest assured it is being worked on basically daily.

Can you please post a FTS so everyone understands the gravity of your statement?

  4. I will be headed to fragfest this weekend so we are offering up a 15% discount for WAMAS members with FREE delivery.

Sale is valid between now and Saturday at midnight.  I will be dragging my kids along to this event so I will only be there between 2pm and 4pm for order pickups.  If you can't make this window we are happy to ship these items to you so just select the shipping method of choice at checkout.

If you can make this window on Sunday, select the Club Meeting option for delivery at checkout and there is no cost.  Coupon code is FRAGFEST2015 and you must be registered and logged in for it to work.

This is a stacking coupon sale, the code stacks the discount on top of the combo discounts so it is a GREAT time to buy!  Our new website that is rolling out in the next few weeks does not allow these stacked combo discounts so this may be the last time a sale like this comes up.

After a fragfest free delivery order comes in, I will send an email to you with my cell# so you can text me to find me at the event, as I will probably leave all the orders in my truck so I don't have to setup a table.

  6. Avast is backordered on them, so I made one. It is not as clean looking but it definitely works.

I made it out of scrap acrylic, a dollar store cutting board, nylon screws and a 6" pvc coupler.

Good job!  We are redesigning the phone porthole to be an accessory for our camera porthole (which is also getting a redesign) and also make it work with point and shoot and mirrorless cameras etc so the phone porthole as it was designed is pretty much gone forever.  Love your implementation of it though!

  7. Bwahaa....

Seriously, right?  I have learned that putting the word "free" on the internet brings out all kinds.  Someone even reviewed the free towels!  Don't worry though, I submitted their info to the Canadian Pharmacy websites so justice will be serve via the spam machines :)

  8. The water level externally has almost no impact on the internal level.  What does have an impact is how fast you are feeding water through the skimmer.  If you try and feed more, the water rises.  Different pumps, pump ages, cleanliness of pump will all have an impact on internal water level although once you have a consistent setup, the skimmer will operate pretty consistently as well.  If your skimmer is plumbed via a manifold attachment or gravity feed startup is going to have an impact on the internal water level.  Added nutrients to the system is also going to have an impact on foam level, some foods are worse than others.  By lowering the standpipe section below the gate valve you lower the the lowest point the skimmer can be set at internally.  This means that you can run more water at a faster feed rate through the skimmer and not overflow.  Most people feed the skimmer too much water, I have posted Escobal's turnover calculations for skimmers many times here so a search should pull up the formula if your interested in what is "optimal".

  9. Thanks guys, if you put a review on amazon just put something in the notes at checkout so we know to look there.  A few people have been abusing the system and submitting orders without actually reviewing anything or ordering 3 towels with only one review etc, so we are checking these all pretty carefully.

  10. Where are all the colored flecks that make it beautiful? Gray. It looks so... industrial.

Seriously, guys. Good work. Congratulations on putting this together so quickly. WAMAS is proud to have been with you throughout this journey of yours.

I make it beautiful, not some flecks  :smokin:

Seriously, imagine dropping a #6-32 x 1/2" screw that you really need on the floor, flecks are not going to help get that ATO buttoned up and on the shelf :)  Gray, well, when you need 24 gallons of epoxy tomorrow you take the color Sherwin Williams has on the shelf.  Floor coating was kind of a last minute decision, we just happened to have a window of 2 weeks open up between building essentially being done and power company being able to hook us up to the grid.

  11. So without doubt, the most labor intensive part of this whole project for me has been the epoxy floor coating.  Wash, rinse, repeat.  20 hours of diamond grinding, wash rinse repeat.  Wash again, dry, vacuum.  Sweep, vacuum, repeat.  You get the idea :)  But......

Last few weeks have seen some late nights....

But!!!  We got our final today!!!!  So, one more coat of epoxy on the floor and then moving time :)

  12. 40 gallons of primer and 30 gallons of paint.  All the interior sheeting is OSB so it really soaked it up.  The tracks are t-8 fluorescent lights.  There are 5 rows of 4 foot lights all wired in series (something like 90 lights and 30 ballast), luckily Justin came out and helped me get those done because it was a serious job.  The fans are not "brand" name big a$$ but they are 8' hvls fans made by Hunter, they work really well.
