Updates and pics please
I've been so busy for the past few weeks. I'll post an update before the end of the week.
-
you would think that there is a valve or something to drain a little so you can add some kalk... my sealed GEO made a mess if you dont take water out first... ?
That's whats missing with this setup! I guess I could extend the pump out a little and add a ball valve.
-
Hey Glen, Thanks for the info... when you add kalk to the grey seas or the deltec you just get an extra little boost of kalk in the tank rather than a spill...
Maybe I'm doing it wrong, there may be a better way of doing it. I don't need to refill too often so I never really looked into it.

I saw this earlier today while at the shop. Looks great. I can't decide if I want to get into yet another expensive coral

anyone run the MRC unit with the digital timer??
http://www.aquariumspecialty.com/catalog/p...roducts_id=3061
Hey Hunter,
I have that one but in medium, it's online now. Works great, but it's a pain to refill without spilling some water one the floor . I have to set to mix for 2 minutes every two hours or so, so the water stays pretty saturated.

Thanks Steve. It's coming along. I get to work in short burtst between semesters, but I need to pick up the pace since I'll be hosting thanksgiving this year.
I still haven't purchased the standpipes, I need to measure the existing ones before I place he order.
Decided not to run the frag tank off the main pump. I like the option of cutting the circulation for feeding.
The last pieces of equiptment I'm waiting on is power modules for the Apex. Then I can finally clean up the wiring mess in the stand.

Just a few new pictures, I should be done building next month hopefully.

Great thread. Glad to see another "techie" here.

That's a great DIY post, Glenn! Thanks for posting it here.
No problem. The origina. Cables were too short and flimsy for my liking.
John I still need to learn how to use the Apex myself

I posted this on RC earlier, but it may be useful to someone here. If you have any fitment issues with the Aquasurf cables it's not too difficult to make your own.
HOSA MIDI cable.
Pins 1-5 starting on the left
Strip the outer shielding, on this particular cable, ping 3 is the ground, you only need about half of the copper.
On the AquaSurf cable only pins 2, 3, and 5 are used. So I cut the other cables down at the insulation. You need to be very careful not to short out and pins because #3 isn't shielded.
Pinout
RJ45 connector with clip facing down:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
5 3 x 2 5 3 x 2
Works like a champ now and actually fits without any tape or rubberbands.

Wow that room filled up fast! Are you going to put some panels on the stand to hide all the equipment? Nice Yellow Belly pics by the way.
The stand will be build into the wall with doors. I plan on tacking that in a couple weeks when I get a break from school. Yeah it did fill up fast. I wish I had about two more feet

I'm diggin' that acrylic tank. It's sweet.
Thanks! I've been out of it for a while. Here are a few updates.
I finally have lights over the tank. I can't run them until the electrician finishes up though :(
Random livestock photos.

Are you planning on running LB reflectors or LUMENMAX? If LB, although i've never ran more than 1 or seen anyone try to run 2 on a 6' tank, they don't get great spread and you may want to go with 3 (also the one i'm currently running is the mini so the larges may get better spread). Someone else may have some personal experience with running multiples that can help though. And you will be able to see what mine looks like w/ 3 as well to help decide...
I actually have a single four foot pendant. I have a center brace so three lights is a no go. My tank is only five feet. Is yours six?

Getting some good progress done. Nice idea with the formica top. What are you planning to use for trim on the side of the top?
The same formica, I'm just waiting to get the strips back from the shop.
What happen to the CJ stand pipe?I didn't order them yet, but I plan on it. I don't really care for the look of the white pipes.
-
Cool! Looking forward to seeing the progress.
I hope it comes out as god as yours.

Ditto on that. I picked my tank up yesterday. This thing is amazing! it's only 20x30x12 but it's 1" and 1.25" all around with polished edges. You can't beat that.
-
Sweet frag tank. I think u should black it out.
That's exactly the plan. Man, I stole so many ideas from you LOL. I was going to call you for the move, but this was a spur of the moment move haha. We pretty much grabbed a couple people off of the street.
-
BRK all the way! I didn't have access to a truck when my tank arrived, John packed it in his truck brought to my house and even helped with getting it into the basement!
You can't beat that!
-
Wow, I decided to go with just two 400w halides. I plan on running a 250 over the frag tank.
-
Are you planning on running a dedicated breaker or two to your set-up? I have been debating this and think i would rather be safe than sorry in the end if i got everything up and starting triping breakers...???
Anyone have any idea how many watts one breaker can take?
I'm getting two 20A breakers installed. My electrician is away on travel, so it might be a while . I'm maxed out in the basement. I had to move my printer because I couldn't print anything during the day when when my halides were running.
-
LOL, I just noticed the third party in the tank. What do yo have planned for lighting?
-
Congrats on getting it on the stand. I see you went the smart route and used more than four people. Don't you just love the depth?
Glen's 250 Gallon upgrade
in Dedicated Tank (Build) Forum
I know I've been MIA . What started out as a tank upgrade has turned into a near full basement overhaul. Once, I get a lot of the construction debris cleared out I'll start posting again.
