  1. For future reference, Take one of those plastic dishes with lids you get from chinese food (or similar tupperware) poke holes in it and you can float the shrimp in the Display for a few days.  Saves the animal while protecting your coral.  You'll sometimes see it done with pistol shrimp in LFSs.

  2. Three thoughts:

    1. How are you testing parameters?  Can you confirm them with someone else's test?  Even a petco test (though i not sure how much faith i put in them) could let you know if what youre reading is accurate.  Test kit could be off.

    2. Where did the live rock and sand come from?  Any chance it was contaminated?  Perhaps heavy phosphates?

    3. Though it wouldnt solve the firefish, how intense are your lights?  Have they gone from an underpowered system at BRK to high intensity with your current?  Can you dial back intensity at all?

  3. I lost my tank years ago during hurricane Sandy, never rebuilt it with a pending marriage and moving at that time. Years later I have some time again and have been researching and found the Fluval evo 13.5 the youtube reviewers seem to like it, and you can add the purpose built protein skimmer into the overflow area. Having never owned fluval equipment I wanted to get anyone who has experience with this tanks opinions on how well it runs and especially on the light situation. It comes with LEDs at 14k and i think it might be ok for some zoas and other softies but I was hoping to do some LPS and eventually SPS in the tank as well. I guess if i need to remove the pretty hood and get a new light eventually not a big deal but being out of the hobby for so long LEDs are something i know diddly about.

I've been running an Evo 5 since september, has zoas (low-med price) and lps (war corals, favia, blastos, lepastrea and acans) doing quite well in it.  I would not expect it to handle SPS well though.

  4. Tank is still sitting outside. Timing with holidays, then the cold weather and illness all caused delays.

Is there anyone with truck/big vehicle available Saturday Jan 21st? Temps supposedly will be around 50 that day, according to AccuWeather.

I will be out of town that weekend.  Sorry

  5. As a heads up, the spec v is configured to hit the spectrum for freshwater planted tanks. The evolution was identical but has the proper k value. A stock spec v may run into algae issues. Still awesome find, I had my eye on one that sold in hrs on craigslist
