Maybe you have a nerve problem, carpal tunnel or something that would cause a tingling feeling when hand/wrist is used in certain positions (another thing that happens to me).

No I don’t. The only nerve problem I have is keeping my nerves when stupid stuff like this happens. It’s probably my return pump.  It went bad and am replacing tonight, actually.

  2. So I found out that most of the electrical readings are due to induction. The problem is, I have no cuts and I did feel it that one time.  placing my fingers in salt water does not create that zap feeling. It only happened once and it was in the basement. I’m starting to think there is no leak and it was something else but I can say for sure that it was NOT a cut and it happened when salt water ran out of my DoS hose.
I will continue to monitor.  At least my probe is now bringing the induction current readings to 0.

Do you have an electric eel?! I kid.

Why not try the reverse. Unplug everything to ensure the drop off to 0, then plug items in and note anything that raises it.

    :) Funny you are.

That doesnt really help b/c each item adds some AC voltage so it's difficult to locate the actual leaking device.  The video shows what I'm seeing

  4. While working on the tank, I felt a slight sting in my finger which I took as an electric charge.  So I took a multimeter, stuck the red probe in the water and the black probe in the ground/3rd hole of the outlet.  Sure enough, I got 30V on the multimeter!!  I systematically turned off each electrical item in the tank but the multimeter never dropped to 0.  Removing some pumps seems to drop or even increase the current but I'm assuming that they are acting as poor grounding probes when they are off which may explain why I see current dropping when I restore them...

In any case, I'm very confused and worried that I may have a dangerous situation.  I have a grounding probe which helps but obviously isn't the correction I'm looking for.

  5. That’s what I did. I had a nice new tank and didn’t want to trade it in for a beat up one. That’s why I went to Bud.  After a few years of salt on it, I’m not as married to a container plus it’s pretty much tucked away where it’s difficult to see.

Thanks for the info guys. I actually had a scheduled surgery the day after getting the tank swapped. Having the calcium reactor stop working that close to being away from home is  stress I didn’t need. Luckily it all worked out!!  So again, thank you.

  6. It seems that Bars By Bud is now gone!  Not only was it a well priced place to refill my CO2 tank but Bud was a really nice guy with whom I always cracked a joke or 2 during my fills.

Sucks to see the place go.  Anyone know of alternatives?

  7. They last me a bit longer but yeah they are $$. You can ask spectrapure why you’re burning through them so quickly. I know there are cases where CO2 / cloramines can prematurely cause filters to die. They can trouble shoot. Spectrapure sells a co2 test kit I am about to use myself.

  8. I have their Maxcap and have just recently replaced the silica buster w/the even more expensive enduro.  It seems to be working great but in all honesty I was thinking of switching over to BRS media for my next refill.  In your case, I would have to say, if it aint broke, dont fix it.
In my case, it's about the $.  There are threads out there proclaiming that the spectrapure filters last longer but I would be interested to see if that's actually true in my case.

  9. Boiling water.  I actually got rid of 100% of all my aptasia.  Took a while but I somehow won the war.

I would only see 1 or 2 pop up at any one time.  Sometimes in the gavel, but usually in my rocks.  I know the rock they came in on so I removed that rock in spite of being a cool cave for my fish.  Then I purchased a large plastic syringe.  This one  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P90N3BY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's HUGE.  IF you do this, be VERY VERY careful.  You can burn yourself very easily.  First, I put some RODI tubing at the end of clear hose which came w/the syringe.  It allowed for a more directed stream.   Boil water in a container and carefully suck it up into the syringe.  Quickly fire it into the target before it cools off.  Soon as the hose goes into the water, it begins to cool very rapidly so you want to be careful 1) not to burn yourself, corals, or critters.  2) fire into the anem.

The cool thing about this procedure is that it burns it completely off the rock.  Sometimes you can even see the little son of a gun's corpse float away an suck it back up in the tube.

PLEASE be careful if doing this.

Is there a product or solution that does not have to be injected? That can just be squirted on the aptasia?

Also, is that same product harmful to other corals that are nearby? What about rock flower nems (not very close, but in tank)

  10. Not really sure but I noticed my TDS went from 0 to 1 so I changed all 4 cartridges on the maxcap. Recently, the whole system seemed to seize and stop producing water so I replaced everything. Nothing "looked" dirty so I was baffled by that one. I've also had 3 faucets needing replacement due to seizing.

  11. I've been blowing through my filters Spectrapure filters a little more than I think is normal.  Maybe I'm wrong b/c my tap TDS is usually well below 200 which seems pretty good.  Having said that, I've had 3 pin hole leaks in my copper pipes.  The house isnt THAT old (1986).  Does anyone recommend a kit for testing the tap water?  I'm considering getting a whole house filter to remove chloramines and hardness but I want to make sure I get the right system.  Any recommendations on that too?

  12. I was able to completely remove them with boiling water and a 500ml syringe connected to some tubing. I threw out the rock they came in on and was lucky enough to nuke the ones which spread into the gravel and surface of other rock. Took a few months but got everything that popped up.

I tried killing off ("Outlaw" ) palythoas with mine. I'd had it with them. They kept coming back. I'd even find them on the sand sometimes. Most efforts at eradication never worked completely. There was just too much mass and some tissue would always survive to regenerate polyps later on. Maybe an even larger laser would have done better, but I don't know for sure. In the end, I just pulled all the rock out, carved off what I wanted to keep and acid washed the rock outside in a covered trash can. Looking at the rock beforehand, I could see them in nooks and crannies, so the laser approach would still have been unsuccessful.

Before that, I tried kalk (moderately successful), acid injections (too labor intensive and not very effective), covering under pliable duct-seal (never as effective as I would have thought. A longer period of coverage or tighter seal may have worked better), sodium hydroxide, and probably other ways that I am forgetting here.

In the end, rebooting the rock was the only thing that worked for me.

  13. treesprite, hopefully you'll never see an issue but I saw enough in my follow up visit (which I did in order to inform them of what happened) to think their livestock was not worth the risk. Hopefully things have changed but now that my tank is well and my fish are healthy, I won't risk being burned there again. In 20 years with 6 different tanks that was my worst experience.

  14. I agree w/the CP treatment if you can get your hands on some.

I will never buy a Petco fish again.  I got a tang which wiped my entire tank out.  I went fallow for 9 weeks and finally got rid of whatever it was and now QT everything before going in the main tank.
