I recently purchased a K2 Avast kalk stirrer for my 75 gallon tank and have had it set up for about two weeks. I have a Sentry dosing pump feeding my stirrer the top off water. How do I know when to add more Kalk to the stirrer? Is there a pH change? Is it possible to add too much to the stirrer at one time? Is there a need to empty the stirrer out every so often?
FYI - I started off with about 6 tablespoons of USP grade kalk in the stirrer.
Thanks

I am about to change my old wood AGA stand with a metal stand for my reef tank. I got an estimate of $200 to powder coat the stand. Has anyone had any luck with using paint to rust proof metal stands for saltwater tanks. I was thinking of using several layers of Rustoleum?
Thanks.

Sorry you missed the recall on that. There have been several posts about it already but you being not so active might have missed them.

That's great.

I am in the process of changing my fish only system into a reef. That being said I am spending a lot of time changing things about my system. In the process of doing some cleaning in my tank, I moved my heater from my tank to my new sump. I got the shock of my life. I immediately unplugged the heater and did a google search on this heater to see if anyone else had similar problems. I found that my Plastic Stealth (made by marineland) heater had been recalled over a year ago because it caused fires!! Please all check your tank to see if you have this dangerous product also. See recall notice below.
Moderators - Should we keep a running recall page or sticky for aquarium related recalls?

Hi all
I am trying to design a Sump to fit underneath my 58 gallon and 75 gallon tanks with a compartment for an insump skimmer and a refugium. Does anyone on the board have any pictures or diagrams of a similar set up? The Oceanic 58 gallon is about 36 inches long and the AGA 75 is about 48 inches long.
Thanks

Hi all
I am in the market for a new protein skimmer for my current 75 gallon mixed reef tank (soon to be a 60 gallon cube). Right now I am running a Aqua C Remora HOB skimmer that I am pretty happy with, but now I am going to move to an insump skimmer. I welcome all recomendations with explanations or personal experience.
Thanks.

All i can say is WOW!!! Do you have any pics form your first green house build in Florida? How is this one different?

I've had a simular question for a while. This is what I am going to try (Just for water circulation).

Does any one use more than one skimmer for their tank? I currently have two Aqua C remora Skimmers on my 75 gallon mixed reef tank. I can't say I notice the difference when I take one of them out of service. I get great skimmate from both.
thanks

Thanks Mountaineer, but I was able to pick some solution up this weekend in NJ. I appreciate the offer.

Does anyone have a refractometer (near Rockville) that I could compare mine to. I do not have any calibration solution, and will not have any for a while.
Thanks

I don't why I am having so many problems with my WAMAS account (cannot see member only areas), but that is another story.

I am going to purchase a refugium kit. I am thinking of either purchasing a kit from ipsf or inland aquatics. Has anyone purchased for either of these places? Does anyone have an opinion on the kits they recieved from one of these places?

Thanks Quazi. Setting up a reef during a recession is a mother.

I regret not setting up my large reef tank in the two years I've been in Maryland.
regular tank VS rimless
in General Discussion
Hi all
I have a tank in a relatively small room where I and my family generally watch TV. I am concerned that if I change my traditional tank with the canpy (the lights enclosed inside of the canopy) to a rimless tank with the lights exposed I will get a lot of fishtank light that would bleed into the room and interfere with the family watching TV. How do those with rimelss tanks combat this bleeding of lights? Just FYI - I have LED lights over a 36 inch tank.
Thanks
