1. Im in the same issue as you are with actually a same size 29g tank. Im actually going to set up both filters but my only concern is, unless I'm completely mistaken, why put any polyfilter into the system. I was always under assumption they are just excess nutrient factories like the spnges you get with most pumps. Just my opinion. Hope all goes well!

  2. Just wondering if there will be a thread started for frag swapping for the upcomming meeting. Or will it be in the members section only? Interested in whatever anyone has LR, LS, Softies as Im still just starting back up.

To moderator/Oregami, Do you still accept membership renewals at the meetings?

    Thanks all again,

  3. Thanks everyone for the greet.

SOUTHDOWN was the name of the sand I couldnt remember. duh

DAN, He is doing really good, hes 5 now and you would never know he has a half of a heart. Thanks for the offer but I got a PM you make skimmers now? Do you have a site to check out what you have? Whats the latest and greatest trend in skimmers? Im still kinda partial to my old beckett i regret I got rid of.

Im sure once I get my membership paid for here Ill check out the FS section but I'll be on the lookout for essential items in the time being.

    Thanks again,

  4. Ive been away for a few years now, but the bug has got me again. Currently have a 45 gallon hex tank that was a give away but im looking to expand to a 4-6' tank and had sold everything. Just curious what the current uses are for a few things since ive been out of the hobby.

What is everyone using for sand now since if I remember correctly, the stuff from Home Depot which I cannot remember the name was either phased out or no longer made?

Has the "for sale" section on RC been taken off?

Anyone making skimmers in the area or still mail order the way to go. My last came from GeoSkimmer on RC, and I havent gotten any replies from George on CMAS to inquire about his endeavors.

Also looking for any small softy frags and refuge items as I will be setting one up ASAP to wipe out my hair and red algae blooms.

Thanks for the read and I hope to see old friends at the next meets.

  5. Dunno if this works for everyone, but I completely rid noise and oil slick with my drilled over flows by attaching a elbow pointing up or angled and then using the conicle shaped strainers that come with most pumps. Then snipped out every other "rib" to give it the extra flow. Worked like a charm for me. Just be sure to match the dimension for dimension of the pvc. Was a lot easier than all the extra tubing needed for most other fixes.

  6. I live about 4 mins from CJ, who is selling his 180 Set-up from CMAS. Absolutely Beautiful system, and has every lil "toy" you could imagine. Favia everybit the siuze of a basketball. Purple tip Acro, from his, i guess 4" DSB. to the waterline, and Id say at least 50 stalks. Absolutely amazing the size of his corals. Just out right Exceptionally looking tank and great guy to chat with. He is trying to sell it whole, but is taking offers for splitting it up if he has no other option. Shoot him an email as he is moving in 2 months.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I have six purple sea urchins that I would like to get rid of. They were hitchhikers on live rock, and have been happily scavenging for six months. Does anyone a) want them; or B) have an idea of what to do with them?

    Any input appreciated

  9. Sgt fury, Ill take the Softball GSP. And a cup or two of Sand. Let me know If both are still available and how much youd like for both.

D33rex. Yes Dr mac will bring anything you wish for to the meetings, from the site. Just be prepared to bring extra cash and/or not get what you ordered. I order clean up crew every meet, but he somehow never brings everything I ordered LoL. Still havent figured that out. He must be starring at them metal halides to long! LoL And the extra cash, youll unequivocally buy something from his "frag feast" I ALWAYS leave these meetings having to explain(grovel) to the wifey "HER" new pets. LMAO

    See you there,

    Mike

  10. Holly, I would love a frag. Let me know what sizes you have, and the color. I dont want to sound picky but the greener the better for me. Also shoot me a PM on price and Ill see you at the meeting.

    Victor, First off

WELCOME to the club. Most people just email pics to interested parties or post in their galleries. And as far as transporting, few options. The soup containers from Chinese Carryout works great for small frags or just some ziplock bags and water to (or if you prefer to use the wifes most expensive Tupperware, love when she cries, ITS NO GOOD ANYMORE THERES FISH POOP IN IT.) Then put everything you've bagged up into a small "Coleman" type cooler and your set. Since its Winter, might want to let the car heat get to normal before loading your goods into it. Hope you have a great time and dont fight to hard on the raffle!

  11. Id like to make a request to help stock my tank. I dont have anything to trade as of yet, and would prefer to Buy the corals as well. If I remember, the "free" table was just completely destroyed by a small group of people at the last meeting and I dont want to deal with that. Sorry for the pessimistic attitude but it was Highly disrespectful to the other members.

If Anyone has these available please let me know asking price and a pic if possible. Much thanks in advanced.

    Live Sand

    Macro, any type

Any Color Zoos, or Button polyps or Ricordias.

    Frogspawn Frags or corals

    GSP's

    Xenias

    Basically any softies.

Thanks again, and see you at the meeting,

    Mike

  12. Im sure some agree and some dont, but think of this. Do you think snowflakes eat Rosie red type feeder fish in the wild? Its really not good to feed in captivity. Like I said some will tell you "oh ive been doing it for years" its just Mine use to devour shrimp and krill every 2 or 3 days. Wouldnt see nothing but his head sticking out until he got hungry and thenswam around until i fed him,, on a stick of course!

Sorry, but been a pet peeve of mine of the idiots you hear about buying huge triggers, eels, groupers, etc so they can amuse their friends watching a Goldfish get eatin'.

    Mike

  13. Just curious anyones input on how many bulkheads would you use for a 125 with a mag 12 return? 1-2 incher? 2-1 inchers? 2-2 inchers. with max 6' of head not sure how to do all the math to make sure I have enough pump. I dont mind backing down the return flow but just want to have enough pump to not overflow the sump. Thanks for your help

    Mike

  14. What size valve do you need?, most standard 1/2"-1" gate valves are 6-9 bucks from USplastics.com $25 for a gate valve is ridiculous, unless you want a 2 incher. I thought the euroreefs used 1" shipped should be around $15 from one of these places.

    usplastics.com

or savko usually have the best prices just my .02

  15. Any clownfish would do

On the wrasse, i agree with mike, Ive had several wrasses over the years and they destroy any type of DSB if your going to have one. Either by aggressive swimming, burrowing making a home or, mine use to pull snails off the rocks and throw them on the sand, they try and bury them. Not sure if this was normal for a lunare wrasse but it was H-E-double-hockey-sticks on the water clarity. tng

  16. Well, I dont want to be the bad guy, but every tank I have had I have always waited for the hair algae to come, then throw on a fuge and within a month algae gone forever. Now what was causing it? I dont or never will know. Maybe over feeding the fuge is eating, or excess something the fuge is eating. But I guess everyones experience differs. And for about 20buks total, its worth the shot.
  17. Go with the fuge first. And dont bother wasting money on those expensive hang ons. Just get a kitchen sink size tub from walmart, about 5 buks, drill a hol ein it for a bulkhead for water to overflow into tank of sump, and then use a MJ 400 to pump water into it and fill it with southdown, and get some macro when someone is prunning.

Canister filters end up being Phosphate and NO3 or 2 I cant remember spnges after a short while. Theyre good for running carbon and making water movement but steer away if your trying to get rid of nuisance algae.

    Just my .02

  18. Hope Im not to late. I have to refinish my basement, and will be framing it within the next few weeks. Its all concrete now. I was thinking of using several GFCI outlets for tank. Just curious what is meant by multiple circuits? Not sure if what I had planned already covers this, but was going to have electrician wire basement then give me 4 GFCI plugs dedicated to tank area. The house has 6 GFCI plugs, and none have tripped as of 3 months post construction so I dont see a problem with that.

    Thanks

    Mike

  19. Just to chime in. If someones looking to make quick money to buy some new bulbs or something, there was a guy who had sold the miss. stuff for $2/lb+ ship and he sold his 100lb lot in maybe 3 days. I myself bought 4lbs and it filled a gallon jug maybe 80% full. Still half half of it 1.5 half later. Whatever is left over throw it on RC, they will eat it up. Also, for your size order, I would bring plenty of dust masks when you start cutting those bags. My tub clouds up just opening the lid.

P.S. FWIW its never boiled for me<???> but when i mix it with vinegar in an old coolwhip tub, the tub does feel warm in my hand, but no where near say a standard light bulb. and using the "adding vinegar" method, I have hardly no residue left over. That thread was here for awhile, but can be found on RC too. Im using a kent aqua doser, not sure how it works in a reactor
