hey Wamas, i use my RO/DI for making drinking water (ro only) in addition for the aquarium

what are your thoughts on this as a replacement for drinking water only?

Seems overpriced for what seems to amount to a column of calcium sulfite, activated carbon, and a mechanical filter. My feeling is that you're getting good water with your RO approach.

what would be a good way to alkalize the RO water for consumption...

i do agree the "flavor" of RO is the best

If you're on city water, then just run the water through a sediment filter followed by a carbon filter. This should let a lot of your existing hardness (which includes carbonate alkalinity) pass through.

Why do you want to "alkalize" your water? All that really means is you want the pH to be higher than 7. Fresh water, especially RO or RO/DI has a lot of components removed so that pH readings are essentially meaningless because it takes very little for it to deviate a lot around the neutral point (7). Low pH in these circumstances often just means there's CO2 gas dissolved in the water.
