Sea Star Wasting in the aquarium

Recently began losing a 10 year old sand sifting star; I should say minimum of 10 years because that's how long I've had him. This week I noticed his arms undergoing necrosis like sea star wasting disease in the wild.

Has anyone noticed this in stars in captivity? Is this simply how very old stars waste away? A bit of a bummer, this guys was my oldest livestock and went through two tanks with me.

you sure nothing is eating him?

Don't think so - it was spreading without anyone picking at him.
