Buzzing Co2 Regulator when "on"??

Hey Everyone,

So every time my regulator turns "on" (electronic solenoid) it has an awful loud buzzing noise. Is it going bad? It's still working properly. Any thoughts? Thanks

Is it an electrical buzz or a grinding type of buzz? Sounds like something might be getting caught up in the mechanism that opens the valve on your solenoid. I haven't found a good one that will last me a long time yet, have gone through 3 of them, albeit 2 were used.

It sounds like a very loud electrical buzz, so i'm not exactly sure if it is or is not actually electrical.

Hmmm... try seeing what kind of current it is drawing. They run off of low current from my limited understanding of electronics (you should be able to see what the wattage is by looking at the solenoid itself, I think mine has it stamped on on a metal plate or sticker). Maybe it's drawing too much and is a hazard.

I figured you probably need more detail then that.

Disconnect the power, shut off CO2 tank.

Remove the regulator from the CO2 tank.

Remove the nut and ring at the buttom of the solenoid.

Slide the solenoid off.

Remove screws at the base of the valve.

The valve is a metal rod with a rubber tip and a spring. Stretch that spring back out.

Put it all back together and give it a try.

So i took it apart, put it back together and the same thing. I is definitely coming from the magnet part where the electrical current comes in. I have it on one of the low power outlets on the DC8.

Does that mean i need a whole new solenoid?

probably a bad electromagnet around the solenoid.

Yes. That electromagnet is the black square that the spring and piston valve goes into. Basically the wires from the plug go into the black square and wrap around a piece of ferrous metal. Apply electricity and it becomes a magnet (opposite polarity than the magnet that the piston valve) pushing the piston valve out.
