I heard someone say that you could use white lithium grease on the electrical contacts of a DE 400 w bulb to make replacing the bulbs easier.

Is this true?

I got some for you if you need it. I wouldn't use on screw on bulbs as the grease might be conductive causing a spark gap.

I use it for double ended bulbs to help slide it into the contacts.

Yup, I used this when I had DE bulbs. Easy to find at HD or any auto store. Helps keep the ceramic sockets from cracking/breaking since they get brittle from the heat.

I would never use any conductive product for this situation. By using one you are compromising the insulating value of the porcelain and it could cause a ground fault situation. You are better off using a dielectric product like Permatex Dielectric Grease that can be found in most auto parts and home improvement stores.

Try noalox. It is pretty much designed for this application.

+1 This is what I use. I also put it on all my reefing plugs to help ward off salt creep and oxidization.
