dhoch April 13, 2007 Share April 13, 2007 Dan, I have a question for you. Have you tested the "longevity" of the kalk solution with your kalk reactor? It's not totally sealed, and I'm wondering how long one can expect to get "good" kalkwasser before haveing to replace it. Dave
dandy7200 April 13, 2007 Author Share April 13, 2007 "Its the Sh*t" LOL Dave, the Germans suggest cleaning every two weeks. That said, I have never cleaned mine I keep about a bit of kalk powder stirring in the bottom and make small additions weekly. Heres how I figure how much to add a week: I add 1 gallon of kalkwasser to my system/week. There is 2 teaspoons required to make up 1 gallon of kalkwasser. 2x7=14 teaspoons There are 3 teaspoons/Tablespoon 14/3= 4.6 Tablespoons There are 2 Tablespoons/oz. 4.6/2 = 2.3 oz So I add about a 1/4 cup weekly. When setting up the reactor I add a 1 week supply and then the 1/4 cup weekly. I don't make a slurry just unplug, lift the lid and dump it in. Takes about 12 seconds start to finish. I guess if I was pinned down to make a suggested clean out schedule it would be consistant with a powerhead driven reactor and be monthly cleaning, I'm just letting you know what I do. I will most likely clean mine inside and out quarterly.

Deltec's "NOG" Euroreef is "Got skimmate?" LOL Foam on a glass of beer -something like: Put a real head on it with Grey Seas. Micro-brewed for a foamier head. Grey Seas gives better head. .. .. .. .. Okay - guess not. "You can shave with our foam." "Put it on strawberries!" "Whip it!" "Wet or dry, it's the foamiest!" "Meringue!" "Skimmate - the other protein!" Don't stop me - I'm on a roll... "Ah, what a relief it is!" (okay - old Alka-seltzer ad) fizzy, foamy, alka-seltzer.... "Just add sugar!" (egg white, sugar, meringue) "Kool-whipped!" "Grey Seas Foam" Okay... I'm spent for the moment... bob
