The software was updated tonight. There are a few changes to be made yet to restore the way things looked before. Please bear with me as I try to figure this out.

This was a major upgrade that we were forced to accept as the old version was scheduled to be unsupported in a couple of months, leaving us open to potential security concerns.

There was a hiccup in the conversion that necessitated restoring the server data to a set point taken this morning. Therefore, some posts from today (Sunday) were lost. I'm sorry for that.

Can someone please tell me if the forum index and post listings look somewhat normal now? That is, in table format rather than a grid with huge, generic icons?

I see the Forum page and post listings as standard tables -- no visual issues on my side.

Just a tiny bit different, right? The main page is not cumbersome with lots of space (well over 50%) devoted to generic icons? (That's what I was first faced with last night!)

Yeah just a bit different, everything looks as normal as a forum goes. Also it used to ignore that I had my phone/browser on "dark" theme/mode and was white, and now it is dark which has made things look even different haha. Thank you for all you do!!

Try scrolling to the bottom of the page and see if you can find the light bulb and moon icons in the bottom-left. Click on the bulb for the light colored theme and the moon for the dark colored theme.

Also, the half-half icon may be code for whatever your (device) system theme is. Just a guess.

It's super clean. I noticed some of my posts were gone, not important.

File space was becoming a big issue and a long-term concern. Users used to submit images that were most often less than a 0.25 MB on average, with some moving toward 1 MB each. But, in the last couple of years, some users started pushing images up to 5 MB each, sometimes more. WEBP images are the biggest offender in many cases. So maximum hosted image size was capped at 2MB per image. I've tentatively raised the cap to 5 MB to test the automatic image resizing which should help address storage concerns.

Please try uploading your images again and send me a PM when you do. Please tell me the file sizes of the images that you uploaded and I'll check those figures against the file sizes of the images stored on the server. If the resizing is working the way I interpret that it should, all will be good. If not, we may have to come up with a better solution (which might include users resizing images locally before they're uploaded.

Here are the details just in case anybody's interested:

Our old hosting plan had unlimited storage but the environment was not compatible with the newest software. The new hosting plan (a VPS) is capped at 200 GB but meets environment requirements. It was necessary to switch servers in order to do our best to maintain a secure site, but we had to accept the resource limitation. I'm currently trying to tweak our backup settings to balance storage use and risk of data loss. The last backup plan did three backups (monthly, weekly, and daily), retaining only the last copy of each. So three backups plus the active image are stored on the server. That limited our backup size to 50 GB max (one quarter of the 200 GB). Our current active image is, including system files, sitting at about 40 GB. Image storage is the biggest culprit here and, since we raised the cap on file size a couple of years ago, the images since then (using the old software that did not do automatic resizing) became a real problem.

One possible solution was recently suggested by an officer, which is to delete posts older than 12 months in the For Sale forum. This might go a long way to reclaiming storage to be used for future growth. It would have an impact on archival value of that section of the forum, but that may be way down the list of concerns. But it's something that needs to and will be discussed.

Ok, thanks for taking the time to explain. Another error I experienced was that the image upload section froze and won’t allow me to upload picture even those my picture was only 3.5mb. Anyway, I created another post and was able to upload one picture unless I manually resize them on my end.

Just to clarify, the max size per post for all attachments is 5 MB. Was the 3.5 MB image the only image in the post?

I'm monitoring how the automated image resizing is performing and, if warranted, may relax the limits further.

Initially I selected few pictures which later I found out that it was exceeded the limit but when I tried to upload only one picture which it was only 3.5mb, and it froze and kept displaying the error msg.

Yes, 3.5mb was only one picture which I then created a new post then I was able to post one picture.

Interesting. I've noticed (while doing some testing) that images are sometimes not deleted immediately (when they disappear from the editor), but only sometime after the post is saved. I'd call it a bug myself. Good to know, though.

I've noticed after posting in the FS section last night, I could edit after posting, but this morning, I don't see an option to edit my For sale post to update the status of the items for sale. Is that something we can get back to make it easier for people to see the edits to the main post?

There was a third party plugin in the legacy software versions that allowed us to set edit settings on a forum-by-forum basis, and for the first post in a thread. But the developer stopped supporting the tool and it's not compatible with version 5. There is a global edit setting currently set to 60 minutes for members. That's why you saw the behavior that you did.

Let me look into this further. I liked the old behavior better, too.
