  1. Yeah it’s definitely low nutrients. Nitrates undetectable and po4 checked today .02. I always felt like everyone says more feedings is great but I feel that becomes more problematic if it’s more food that’s uneaten. I’m considering dosing nitrates and po4 since some of the most beautiful tanks I’ve seen/read about are fairly high in n03 and p04.
  2. Yeah that’s what I think is happening. It grows and the more it grows, somehow there isn’t enough nutrients to feed it and starts to die off. Then eventually it starts up again. Yeah I would say bioload has been low with just snails, hermit, two clowns and a yellow coris. But I was doing water changes a week with 5 gallons and I think that isn’t necessary at all! Hence I’m going to cut back to maybe a total of 5 gallons a month.
  3. Hey all. so I’m a little lost with this one but here is a what is happening. I have some macro algae in the tank and I noticed one day it grows well, the next day it’s covered in a white film/dying I’m assuming. I notice I get white film on the glass and rocks as well as a cloudiness in the tank water. I have macro algae that grows and I mostly house sps in the tank. They looked ok originally but have become pale which I thought had to do with the strong lights I was running. I had the ab+ program set to 30% intensity which I just turned down to 20% and raised the lights to 12 inches above the water. Not sure what is causing the the cloudiness as it’s not a new set up. The live rock came from Florida and has been set up for 2 years with me. Current filtration and parameters -22 gallon sumpless mr aqua -xp ato which is made for sumpless tanks -mp10 -2 adult clownfish -1 yellow coris wrasse -cleaner shrimp -halloween hermit -some hermits and snails -salinity 1.026 -ca 410 -alk 8.6 last time checked yesterday -nitrate undetectable -p04 .03 but have some random brown looking hair algae and had some clumps of green algae on the sand. Really just curious what do about it? I did have someone on reef2reef mention that an algae die off followed by a heterotrophic bacteria bloom makes sense but it wouldn’t have been the cause of the stripped nitrates. Only thing is are the nitrates undetectable just because it’s growing on the rocks? Is there something I’m missing? White fuzz on the macro now.
  4. Congratulations on the tank! Glad to see it go to a good home. I run the exact same tank and honestly can’t see myself changing it any time soon. Excited to see what you turn it into.
  5. Hey all looking for something specific to build for my mr Aqua 22 gallon. I want to know if anyone builds stands on here and or if anyone is really good at wood working and would want to do a project like this? please pm. Thank you.
  6. I’ve added dry rock to an established Reef tank before. My advice is yes you can take out the rock but you can’t have out of water for long. Also do not add a lot of dry rock at once or you will potentially create another cycle. Best of luck! Congrats on the new tank!
  7. Looks incredible! I look forward to seeing this build evolve!
  8. Makes sense! I’m glad you haven’t seen any Dino’s for the last couple days. Hopefully that method works. Just thinking about Dino makes me cringe haha.
  9. For wrasses I always do the tank transfer method. Wrasses tends to be very sensitive to copper. Sorry for the loss. It always sucks losing a fish.
  10. Everytime I’ve done this I have always used new sand with a cup or two of the old on top. Either way, good luck and enjoy the new 80 gallon!
  11. So I had Dino and it was bad!! I read the entire Dino thread on reef2reef and all and all I was able to get it cleared up. Just a few questions in the case I missed it. What size is your tank and how large is your UV? Steps I took to clear the Dino out. I dosed enough stump remover until I had a constant nitrate reading. Po4 was always detectable in my tank so I didn’t have to worry about that. I always ran carbon as some Dino can be very toxic. I removed all the sand out of the tank as some Dino will leave in the sand during the time the lights are on. I hooked up a large enough uv with a slow flow right to the display. Every night I would blow off the rocks to get all the Dino free floating in the water column. (hence why I asked about the size of your UV sad most people are running underrated one and or not the right flow through it) But if you do have regular algae growing now, it is a good sign as the regular gha is starting to outcompete the Dino.I have shared this with people and they have also been Dino free now so if you don’t need it, hopefully it can help another fellow wamas member to be Dino free. I’m happy to help if you have any additional questions as I have encountered pretty much everything but Dino for me was so far the worst haha.
  12. I think the aquascape looks great. I do notice the rock seems to be very close to the glass. So it’s hard for me to tell if this is for a small tank or the rock is very large. But in my opinion if you want a little more depth I would recommend working with smaller rock. Even break the current ones to something smaller. But either way good start! I always say as long as you like it, there is always a way to place corals to make any aquascape look incredible!
  13. Just had knee surgery so I’m definitely bored haha.
  14. Yeah that what I thought. I did check with the tank builder as I got a reply today in the morning. He said it is normal with tanks using the yoga mat and it having a phantom bottom. Thank you
  15. Question for all you who have had/have rimless aquariums. So i got a 150 gallon sc aquarium. The pad it came with was cut wrong so sc aquariums said I could use a yoga mat thats closed cell. Well I was filling up the aquarium and noticed that one corner seems compressed more than the others however the tank was leveled and re checked multiple times. Ive owned rimless tanks before however never used a yoga mat. I could just be paranoid and everything is fine. You guys let me know.
  16. Check out house of tropicals. If it's not a hurry, I agree with everyone to just order online. Best of luck.
  17. This can be closed. Plans have been changed to a 150 gallon build
  18. The top of my stand is 3/4 plywood. It seems like some people just go with a 1/8th yoga mat. It seems like the main things is just making sure its leveled. I only am asking bc going from a 50 gallon to 150gallon is a lot and I want to be done right.
  19. Hey all! So I'm almost done building the stand for my 150 gallon build (5x2x2) euro braced however I need to know what foam I need to get. I asked the builder and I know there are a lot of topics on this online. But everyone has different opinions so I thought ask all the wamas members. I noticed Home Depot doesn't sell the pink foam in 1/2 or 3/4 at least not around Rockville and others say to use the white foam which I can't find anywhere. Lowes had a 3/4 inch green one though but I wasn't sure if that's right. Any help would be appreciated.
  20. I finally received my mr aqua 22 gallon. I must say, the packaging was good enough for me not to be worried. The side panel silicone work was very clean however I am a little concerned about the bottom corners. I took some pictures and any insight would be great. I don't know if they did a bad job where I need to be concerned or whether It was just a little sloppy. Any help would be great.
  21. Finally I have received most of my order except for the Vertex Cerebra. As for anyone who knows my Olde English Bulldogge. He needs to be center of attention at all times. Mr Aqua 22 gallon Skimz Sumpro UP34 Vertex Omega 130 Tunze 3155 So far so good. Everything was packed very well and it all came on time with no issues.
  22. Very nice. It seems like some people get bored of them however I just needed something smaller and loved the dimensions. Can't wait to start sharing some pictures.
  23. Just pre ordered the vertex cerebra. Can't wait to see the possibilities.
