  1. I've got a hair algae problem in my Mom's tank I'm working on. Will probably be scrubbing a bunch of it off in the next couple days. We're in Manassas, but I work in Fairfax. I can save ya some if you want, just let me know.
  2. Pulled a lot of them out of the rockwork as close to the base as I could. Still a ton way in the back of the tank I can't reach, but it's looking much better. Thanks!
  3. I had one tiny kenya tree I missed on some live rock when I bought it and they have taken over! I've never fragged anything before...what is the best way to completely remove it from the rock and avoid it from growing again?
  4. Take it from somebody who kept putting anemones in their tank way too early when starting out. Give it some time. Get the corals looking good and steadily growing first. Anemones can be finicky, even in established tanks. When you do decide you're ready for a nem, I have found that bubble tips are the easiest to keep for me. I had a few condys and they ended up eating fish or just going haywire and dying out. I've never had luck with them. I've had 2 RBTAs in my tank for about 6 months now and they are looking great and split frequently. It's all about stability for them.
  5. I was able to find what I needed at brk. Just needed a coupler that didnt seem to be standard size. We rigged something up. Thank you guys!
  6. Centerville Aquarium and Quantum Reefs usually are good about getting tanks in. They don't necessarily keep them in stock, but they can order whatever you need and their prices are usually comparable to online sellers.
  7. I'm trying to get my return pump plumbed up and am having trouble finding fittings for it that aren't brass. Does anyone know of a store in the area that might be able to assist? I've checked all the big box shops. Home Depot, Lowes, etc...
  8. Got it in the house safe and sound. Thanks to those that offered!
  9. Ah yeah, I didn't think about that. This thing may stay on the truck until tomorrow. We've got it loaded, but no way were getting this thing in the house without more people. Oyy
  10. Found a tank last minute and my usual help happens to be out of town when it needs to be moved. I think we have enough hands on the loading side, but if anybody is willing to help move a 200 deep dimension tank about 200 feet into the first floor of a townhouse (No stairs) I would forever be indebted to you. Have a dolly, furniture pads, and all that fun stuff. Looking at tomorrow afternooon, guessing around 2-3ish depending on traffic back from Richmond. I don't expect a lot of response, who wants to move a tank, right? But any responses are HIGHLY appreciated. TIA!
  11. I will probably go to about 65-75% as I only really have LPS and soft corals, no SPS. Starting low is definitely key with new lighting. Try turning them down and slowly ramping them over the next couple months, they should adjust to the new lights
  12. I have lights very similar and I started them off at around 5% and ramp them up about 5% every week or so. The corals may be having a hard time adjusting to the new lights. Did you start them off low or on full intensity?
  13. My tank is open top and about 5 feet from the TV. I have never had issues viewing the TV, I kind of enjoy the blue light throughout the house. Might just be me, though.
  14. I fought red slime for months when I first started my tank. Switching to RODI helped tremendously and I used chemiclean to kill off the last bit that wouldn't go away.
