  1. Good morning WAMAS! I appreciate the "thank you" messages and hope everyone is enjoying the club meetings and the chance to take home some LRS food. I figured I would take a moment to update the club our new building's progress. This new building is pre-wired for a back up generator and will become the new shipping center for all of our operations. We will have floor to ceiling shelving for dry goods as well as a wall of freezers to pull product from to pack orders. There will be a shipping conveyor like the one pictured, as well as a Fed Ex label printer and scale. The new double bay shipping center will give us MUCH more elbow room. The two windows on the left will be fore my new office upstairs. Adjacent to the office will be nice patio door and deck over looking the yard, which is a mess right now...lol. This week we are expected to pour the concrete floor, finish the upper deck and then it's off to the races with insulation and drywall. We hope to be moved in just in time for the busy Fall season when retailers see increased foot traffic . Many folks may not be aware of the fact that LRS is a distributor of many other brands in addition to our own foods. We distribute PE Mysis, Reef Nutrition, Benepets, Poly Filter, Coral Frenzy, New Life Spectrum, Two Little Fishes feeding gadgets, etc. When our construction is complete we will be adding even more brands to our line up to enable retailers to get all the premium foods they need from one vendor. We are really thankful to all of the customers who have supported us along our journey to provide the hobby with quality aquarium foods. We post updates often on the LRS Foods Facebook page and our Instagram page is #reeffrenzy for those so inclined to follow us. Of course our website at LRSFoods.com has our searchable dealer map, media gallery and testimonial page showcasing recent captive breeding projects we have been involved with. Thanks again and Happy Reefing.
  2. Awesome, and I am glad your fish are enjoying the food.
  3. Hello WAMAS! Admittedly I've been a little distracted and haven't posted in our forum in a while. Thank you to Tom @Origami for reaching out to remind me I needed to send you guys some food for the club meetings. So what's new with Larry and the gang at LRS? Well a LOT of stuff has been happening over the past few months.... To start, many of you likely heard about the Indonesian coral ban that went into effect around May of last year. Immediately after that was imposed retailers who were unable to purchase their usual corals seemed to begin buying more fish. Well this lead to more fish being housed and sold, and as you might have guessed LRS "Frenzy" food sales skyrocketed. We increased headcount to eight employees, including adding our son to the payroll while he carries 12+ college credits in business school each semester. In addition to the retail sales of our standard foods the aquaculture food we produced called "Fertility Frenzy" continues to gain in popularity. This food is currently being used by two laboratories in Florida and in Hawaii as a broodstock food for the captive breeding of yellow tangs, etc. We now export our foods to about 9 countries, including Canada as well as supply many public aquariums. Being this busy has hindered our ability to do much traveling for industry shows but by being diligent we've stayed on top of our inventory to avoid any shortages. LRS Foods has a great relationship with our retailers and we are always seeking ways to help increase their ability to access premium aquarium foods. We recently announced that we are distributing the entire line of New Life International pellet and flake foods. You may know this pellet by the common name "Spectrum" with the bright blue lid on the jar. This brand is time proven and is very popular for use in auto feeders and as a supplement to frozen foods. So now in addition to our own for blends we offer retailers products from PE Mysis, Reef Nutrition, Benereef and New Life. We are truly ramping up to be a #OneStopFishFoodShop with an online ordering system which makes it easy for retailers to order all these items 24/7, 365 days a year. So what's next? A NEW BUILDING IS COMING and we are excited! With all if this growth we are maxed out in our current space so we had to think of something, and fast! So we met with an architect to draw up plans for a 2400 square foot detached garage/shipping station. From the ground up this is designed with storage of dry goods and additional freezers in mind. Located adjacent to our current building the original shipping bay and the new will be less than 20 feet from one another. This will facilitate easy "order picking" and the two daily pick ups we get from Fed-Ex. In addition to storage on the first floor, there will be three rooms in the loft, one of which is intended to be an office. I'm not gonna lie, the big room upstairs is getting a pool table and big screen TV because life can't be all work right? The footers for the foundation are being poured on May 1st with a move in date hopefully 90 days after that. We should be geared up in plenty of time before the Fall holiday rush kicks in. Prior to our move in date we hope to able to publicly announce another popular food brand will be coming under our roof so LRS Foods can provide an even larger array of products to the hundreds of retailers in our network. I would like to say thank you to the club and all the members for the ongoing support over the last 5+ years as well as your patronage. If anyone every has any questions please feel free to email me at Larry@ReefFremzy.com or hit me up on Facebook (where I spend an insane amount of time interacting with consumers.) Thanks again for reading all of this and following along in our journey as hobbyists turned entrepreneurs.
  4. Hello WAMAS! I've been AWOL for a few months but I plan on bringing everyone up to speed with what's been happening at LRS HQ. It's all good stuff I promise. More exports, more product lines under our roof and next week we break ground on a new building to house more freezers and dry goods. In the meantime.... At LRS Foods we strive to be on the leading edge of innovation when it comes to aquarium nutrition. We process premium, human-grade, FDA certified seafood ingredients, then add costly supplements such as live blackworms, fresh fish eggs, PE Mysis®, Astaxanthin, betacarotene and more to create the highest quality foods possible. In 2013 we began adding active cultures of probiotic bacteria to our foods in order to offer the benefits which have worked in aquaculture of fish for human consumption for decades. Initially people were skeptical about this change to our foods since at the time we were the only frozen food on the market with "active bacteria." However, it didn't take long for the results to speak for themselves. Soon prominent researchers were reporting healthier broodstock, better egg quality, and more robust larvae. There are over a dozen captive breeding projects listed on our website where LRS foods were credited with assisting captive breeding efforts. Some of them you may have heard about such as the blue hippo tang, yellow tang, flathead perch, Gramma dejongi and others. Some of the rarest fish in the hobby have been captive bred on LRS Foods with probiotics. The details are listed here: http://www.larrysreefservices.com/testimonials.html Earlier this week researchers at the MOTE Marine Laboratory in FL published an article with their peer reviewed findings regarding their experience with probiotics and marine fish. The article is very informative and confirms that probiotics in aquarium feeds can offer real benefits. It is worth a look and it is very exciting that probiotics are now being given the proper credit that we knew they had all along. https://mote.org/news/article/probi...bhxkKypmJdaJzfW3Hf1MWFziRuV5O9DLG2D7DlcyBv2xs
  5. At LRS Foods we have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the most talented and experienced breeders in the marine hobby. We have used their feedback and suggestions to improve our foods so they can be optimal for both hobbyists and breeders. Our Fertility Frenzy® broodstock conditioning diet has been credited with over a dozen captive breeding successes. The good news is that even the standard LRS blends contain the same fresh, diverse seafood ingredients as the "Who's Your Daddy" blend so your fish can thrive too. The freshness and diversity of our ingredients results in a nutritional profile unmatched by any other food in our hobby. In 2017 Todd Gardner announced to the world that he had successfully captive bred yet another marine fish. This time it was the Rainfordia opercularis, which is an uber rare and hardly ever seen fish in the aquarium trade. There were previously only a handful in the US, so when we were fortunate enough to house a pair of these exotic fish we were extremely thankful. You can read all about these fish and how they were conditioned on LRS foods here: https://reefs.com/magazine/captive-culture-of-the-flathead-perch-208/ It is an amazing and humbling honor to care for fish which have been captive bred using our foods. They have settled in nicely, are eating LRS Chunky blend and seem to be inseparable. I shot this quick video tonight of them hanging out in their little cave. If you have inquires about purchasing one of these rare beauties for your aquarium please contact: fluiddynamicsint@gmail.com
  6. I always have my eyes out for new food related products that offer legitimate benefits to an aquarium. When I find something up and coming that looks interesting I reach out to the manufacturer and end users to learn more. Recently the Benereef coral food has been getting rave reviews by reefers that I trust, including some with the most prominent tanks on social media. So far the reception to the launch has been great. You can learn more at Benepetsfoods.com "In the most recent news, Benepets has partnered with none other than Mr. Larry DuPont to get Benereef distributed by LRS (Larry’s Reef Services), so expect to see jars of Benereef in your local store very soon! The two foods, LRS Reef Frenzy and Benereef, seem like a match made in heaven- when I mix the two and feed my fish with it, they go absolutely crazy for the meal." This article was just published on Reefs.com and explains more: https://reefs.com/2018/09/24/macna-2018-las-vegas-benepets/ Tank fed LRS and Benereef foods: Store countertop displays for Benereef
  7. Moorish Idols are often a difficult fish to have success with in the home aquarium. Finding a specimen which is healthy and eating can difficult, and that still doesn't often guarantee long term success. Certain species of butterflyfish can also refuse to eat conventional prepared foods offered to them. Over the years the LRS Fish Frenzy® blend has evolved into what has become a "go to" food for store owners and hobbyists when it comes to feeding finicky eaters. Here are just a few reasons why: Ultra-fresh, chemical free seafood is healthier and elicits a strong feeding response LIVE blackworms and fish eggs are added just before final packaging Nutrient dense, biosecure, farm raised polychaete worms are added as well All LRS food blends contain laboratory tested active cultures of probiotics Whole ingredients such as clams, oysters, PE Mysis shrimp means complete and diverse nutrition, especially when combined with the hand peeled shrimp, perch, squid, etc. If you are thinking about purchasing an expensive, rare or difficult fish for your home aquarium you may wish to pick up a pack of LRS food to help with your success. There are dozens of testimonials on theLRSFoods.com website, as well as more videos which demonstrate our proven track record.
  8. Congrats and thanks for the support!! Glad your fish are happy with their diet.
  9. I went to the local fish store yesterday to shoot a video explaining our Fish Egg product as well as record some feeding demonstrations. LRS Fish Eggs offer the following benefits: The freshest fish eggs in the industry with the shortest time from harvest to delivery to consumer Highest protein & fat content of any eggs I've found commercially available Proven over the past 2 years to get finicky feeders eating faster than many other frozen foods Nutritional information and lab test results posted on the LRSFoods.com website No artificial dyes or chemicals added Mix LRS eggs in with standard LRS "Frenzy" foods for an amazing combo with boosted nutrition for your fish The staff at LRS receives fresh caught fish packed on ice and then quickly extracts the fish egg sacks from the belly. The eggs are promptly vacuum sealed to maintain freshness before storing at -24F in the deep freeze. With 23% protein content and an incredible fatty acid profile it is no wonder aquaculture folks have labeled LRS Fish Eggs "the most perfect broodstock conditioning supplement." These eggs are almost a slam dunk for finicky eaters as well and should be in every aquarist's freezer to help get new arrivals eating right away. You can see the youtube video here:
  10. Congrats and thanks for the support!
  11. LRS has been proud to sponsor Brandon Rutherford's classroom reef project for a few years now. These third grade students are doing amazing things! In this podcast we learned about how the kids captive bred 500 clownfish in their classroom and sold them to a prominent wholesaler! They grew the live feeds and everything, which is so awesome. To listen go here: http://reeffrenzyradio.com/podcasts/ If you would like to visit his website to learn more or DONATE used or new equipment you may have lying around here is the link: http://mrrutherfordisawesome.weebly.com/reef-system.html It is really inspiring to see the dedication and hard work Brandon has put in to keep this project going and growing!
  12. Well it was almost 80 degrees here in North Carolina today so it seems like a great time to share a video I created last year about pre-portioning food to condition your fish to eat pellets from an auto-feeder when you go on vacation. There are a couple tips in here as well as an explanation of a few other foods we distribute. (EDIT: Since this video was produced we are well past 500 dealers worldwide and currently out of Coral Frenzy food samples.)
  13. Morgan is it possible he has two freezers? While on the phone with me Rick was shuffling through the freezer giving me an exact count of what he had of each blend. I could hear frozen flat packs of food slapping against one another as he was rattling off the totals of what he had. I can call him back today to clarify what he really has if desired. I'm not local so I have to go off of what my retailer tells me.
  14. The fresh and diverse nutritional profile of LRS "Frenzy Foods" has a great reputation of getting fish to breed in captivity. With ingredients such as fresh fish eggs, live black worms, and farm raised polychaete worms we also help get new arrivals eating and acclimating faster! Our friends from Vossen Aquatics sent us this video of this Copperband Butterflyfish pair eating LRS food.
  15. I just spoke to Rick at 8:50 PM on Monday March 26th and he did an inventory while on the phone with me. He has Reef Frenzy, Herbivore, Chunky and Nano in his freezer. He also placed another order to restock since he was out of Fish Frenzy®. Sorry for the confusion but he is very supportive of LRS and continues to offer it for his customers.
  16. Thanks for the feedback! We are always open to suggestions for future guests or topics.
  17. Episode 12 of the "Live with Larry" podcast is posted! In this episode I sat down with my good friend Nuri Fisher who is President of Piscine Energetics. We discussed how PE Mysis shrimp became an invasive species in Canada and the sustainable methods his company uses to harvest them. We covered A LOT of info about mysis shrimp including nutrition and preparation tips for feeding. In addition to being the only specialty food maker using PE Mysis in our blends, we are also a wholesale distributor for his entire line of frozen and pellet foods. You can listen online or download the podcast in iTunes or GooglePlay by going here: http://reeffrenzyradio.com/podcasts/ In addition we launched a website where folks can order HD printed shirts featuring a photo of our mandarin. All proceeds from the sale of goods helps fund donations to classroom reef tanks around the country. We have caps on there as well. Visit : http://LRSswag.com Thanks as always for supporting LRS!
  18. Thanks for the support and I am glad you guys are pleased!
  19. I uploaded a new podcast this morning! My wife is in Australia for 9 days visiting our friends who own a reef store "Down Under." They were guests on the podcast so we discussed some interesting differences between how the hobby works over there verses here. Enjoy: http://reeffrenzyradio.com
  20. Thanks Tom! You don't know the half of it....So one day I returned from the gym at 8:30 am to find my daughter's car in the driveway, which is odd because she lives with her husband about 25 minutes away. I walk in the house and she is beaming and said she needed to talk to me. She then proceeded to tell me that daycare was potentially going to cost her $900 a month and she was really against daycare in the first place. Then the pitch came..... "Mom says that you are overwhelmed with office and administrative tasks and she's worried you work too many long hours processing invoices and payments. I want to come work here to learn the business and do all the customer service duties I did at my old job. It's a win-win, and mom gets to see Grayson everyday." So the two had conspired against me and October first our daughter moved a big desk in and we installed a new phone system. She has now assumed 100% of the tasks related to invoicing, collecting payments, taking orders by phone, and managing our swag portal as well as the dealer locator map. It has been the BEST business decision I ever made and I don't know how I survived without her. She loves her new position and the customers love dealing with her. It really frees me up to deal with international shipments, customs paperwork and other tasks which require my focus to continue to grow the business. Hopefully when my son graduates college in 3 years with a business degree he will come onboard as well and the family business will really come together. These links should work to a couple pics of our offices. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1mrFHOcR7ZqMFRTN0tiN0J6czg/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1mrFHOcR7ZqSmZ3TjJEanVzNnc/view?usp=sharing
  21. We had some difficulty after the initial launch getting our podcast published in Google Play. It took several back and forth attempts with the host to sort everything out. I am pleased to announce that as of this past weekend the Reef Frenzy Radio podcast is in the Apple App Store and Google Play!! Therefore we had about a 3 month break where there was no new content. (We also had an insanely busy Summer, hired and trained more employees, and became Grandparents. There was little down time to record and edit sessions.) But we are back on track and more excited than ever. I just uploaded episode 6 with Rick Lowe from Synergy Reef Systems as my guest. In this episode we discuss his line of acrylic products, how he turned a hobby into a business, and key features of his highly popular "Shadow Overflow." We have a few more guests lined up but if you have a topic or guest you would like us to feature on the podcast please don't hesitate to let us know. We also recently launched a new website featuring our new LRS Mandarin Shirts at LRSswag.com I apologize the ladies size small sold out rapidly and we have about 60 on order arriving in two weeks. Thanks again to everyone in the club for their support.
  22. The LRS Mandarin Performance Tees just arrived! These are a very comfortable, moisture wicking polyester shirt and unlike some poly blends these do not itch. The photo of our Mandarin fish has become our iconic image used as our logo and in our marketing. Now using a dye sublimation printing process it has been rendered in a high-definition print on a black background! The wrap-a-round design shows the fish on the front and rear with the LRS logo subtly displayed. Bear in mind sizing is a tad large like a sports jersey. I normally wear an XL but in these shirts I wear a large. Veronica is wearing a size small and she typically is a medium. Store owners have been lining up to get these for their staff but you can order them at LRSswag.com as well as the caps! Don't forget to visit LRSFoods.com to check out the latest updates to the Testimonial page as well as our BUY LRS page which now has over 500 fish stores where you can purchase Reef Frenzy®! Also of note is that 5 weeks ago our daughter Erica, seen wearing the beanie below, came onboard the family business full-time as an office administrator. Having worked previously for 5 years in the hospitality industry Erica brings excellent communication and organization skills to LRS. She has assumed all the tasks surrounding invoicing, billing, answering the phones, and is doing a tremendous job. If you need anything and call 844-577-3663 she will be happy to assist you. Thanks as always for the support from our consumers and friends in VA, MD and surrounding areas!
  23. BTW- No change in processing since my wife has been managing the production line for the last 3+ years.
  24. I've seen this posted before with many foods. Your skimmer is designed to pull organics out of the water and of course at feeding time you are adding organic matter (food) to the system. Sometimes it happens with certain foods more than others. I have heard octopus makes skimmers go nuts, which is why we never used it in our foods. I guess it could depend on the size of the aquarium compared to the amount of food added it shouldn't really be an issue. Sorry for the late response but I didn't get a notification there was a post in my vendor forum.
  25. This week our company turned five years old and we are really excited about how this video turned out. If you've bought a pack of LRS "Frenzy" foods within the last three years this video introduces you to the lovely lady who oversees production to bring you the freshest food in the hobby. Many thanks to Mark Callahan for the great video giving you a behind the scenes look at LRS Foods. Be sure and click the gear icon and select HD for better video quality. https://youtu.be/NB3e9h2CDXU
