  1. So a hippo, yellow, foxface, and an achilies or sailfin would be alright? I guess to start with I honestly don't know the difference of genus in tangs... I guess you never really know with anything, and there are always exceptions to the rule. I think it would be possible to add them all around the same time. I plan on stocking it full from the begining (after the tank is ready of course) but it's one of those things I don't intend on changing, unless I have a real problem! That's a handy tip on the lights out, hopefully I won't have to use it! I like the lyretail anthis, I also feel like I could get a group of them, like 3 females, and 1 male. They seem similar to a lot of the wrasse I've been looking at. I could probably stock the tank with wrasse alone, they are generally peacefull, colorful, reef safe, and can be kept in groups. At least based of the research that I have done. A heniochus was on the list, but the other ones I mentioned above were my top. I know the achilles is a little mor expensive than the others, but I really like the darker color, and the bright fins.
  2. So I'm saving up for a fish list over the next few months, and am looking into compatability. My current stock list is: 2 regular clown percs 1 target mandarin 4 green chromis 1 Hippo Tang 1 Foxface 1 Yellow Tang I want a melanurus wrasse, and will have no problem with that. I am looking into other variaties of tangs, like an achilies tang, sailfin tang, and powder blue tang. Everywhere I have looked says that tangs don't get along with each other, but I have seen many tanks with different species of tangs coexisting peacefully. Any suggestions for a stock list? Preferences are reef safe.
  3. I found your run of the mill starfish will find a way.
  4. Nice tank! I love that yellow fish (is it a goby?) that darts out for the camera, and then goes back into its hiding cubby.
  5. This might answer your question.
  6. Tony, I have only had two skimmers, but I can tell you that when I came across my recirc CS1, my life changed. The thing is a beast, and I plan on using it on the 150. There are a ton of skimmers out there, but Avast won't steer you wrong.
  7. I don't have an answer to your apex question, but I can say congrats on your new found algae color! I'm working on letting the 150 go fallow for as long as possible, which should seem reasonable, seeing as I already have a perfectly good tank to play with. I hope I will start seeing all the different things you are going through. Have you tested your water lately, I'd like to see how things are going after your initial cycle. As per Tom's suggestion based on what Tony Vargas spoke to our club about, and I think Rob recommended a few pages back on your thread, I'm going to see if I can go fallow for 3 months. How far along are you? I guess adding a CUC isn't part of that process, but non the less, I still think you're doing an amazing job at letting it ride.
  8. No cyno here, only when I cycled my tank, way before the leds
  9. With two big a$$ pumps that could probably pump both our tanks together
  10. I don't think you'll like the answer, I believe it's an it2080... get ready for some blue pictures!
  11. Tanks looking really nice! Are you considering a small water change before adding your CUC?
  12. nah, broke the top out, so it's like a decorative box that sits on top of the aquarium. Either way, home now, can measure. That's a great idea, Rob! But the way I've got it figured out is you wont be able to see the screen on top, as the hood will block it. I don't like the hood, but the misses does, so the hood stays. I was looking at some different wrasses today, and figured if I was going to invest in livestock and shipping, I'd like to invest in keeping them in the water.
  13. Aw, you're just getting started! Don't sweat the small stuff. Red slime usually means there is too much nutrients in the tank. Did you have anybody feeding anything while you were gone? Increase flow, if possible, and cut your light cycle. If you're feeding, cut it in half. See what that does for you, JMO!
  14. Did a little bit of work tonight, hooked up my first ATO, and it's running properly. Cleaned up the electric work, and mounted the Apex inside the stand. Calculated that I'll probably run till October before I start adding anything, figured that will give me a good start time on letting the tank do it's thing. Did test last night: PH: 8 Ammonia: .50 Nitrite: .25 Nitrates: 5,0 Looks like it's on it's way. Some of the rock I put in probably had a lot of die off from my 29bc crash, so I figure the live rock in with that will speed things up a bit. I thought about adding some Dr. Tims, but figured I already had everything I need except patience.
  15. I want to stop by Home Depot on my way home from work to pick up supplies to make a screen top. First things first: I'm keeping the hood on top, which is open in the back. It's about a foot off from the tank, but open in the back. Do you think I can just get a piece of acrylic down the back open end of the hood and call it a day? Secondly: If that won't cut it, and a screen is the best option, does anybody have the dimension of the rectangle that is formed on the top of a 150 (out of the two squares) that is divided by the bracing bar?
  16. Miles and the sump experience. He's been curious lately, not that curious...
  17. The office gets a bit chilly sometimes, and I would have to haul it over holidays, but with the light and the constant 74-75 degrees in the office, it would probably be alright. I have a little pump that would be perfect, but I would need a light.
  18. I would do something like this on my desk at work. Maybe I'll take a stab? It seems like as long as you mix your water right, and match temp and salinity you're golden. You would have to put it in a place that kept a pretty consistent temp. though.
  19. Look. If I was in charge of the decorating, I wouldn't have to ask forgiveness on a 150 in the living room...
  20. It's beyond me how frank got a picture of my new stocked 150
  21. Oh my. Jealously does not look good on you!
  22. Alllllright, tune in Thursday afternoon for Comedy Centrals Isaac Roast! I am not trying to recreate Brads tank, I am, however, trying to capture the simplicity. There is enough live rock in my sump to equal that proportion, IMO. I do love me a clam....
  23. Challenge accepted. I'll bet you a coral. Wait a second..... Time will tell, Jenn. I've already got fish I can start thinking about instead of corals Speaking of fish, I'd like to get some ideas. My current stock list: Target Mandarin X1 Clowns (regular percs) X2 Blue Chromis X4 Foxface X1 Yellow Tang X1 Hippo Tang X1 I'd like to look into a group of "schooling" or "shoaling" fish. The Chromis are alright, but at the end of the day, you never know how many you'll have left. I'd also like to get my Mandarin a hubby. Other than that, lets hear it!
