  1. Thanks for the feedback guys. The potential problem is that if the store is correct, then all the newer production models will have this flaw. Their contention is that while the older models may be flush, newer ones are not. To their credit, the floor model has an AGA sticker vs. the Aquean sticker on the ones I've tried to purchase. As such, if they're right, I may be out of luck unless I can find an older model for sale somewhere or a used one in good shape or another manufacturer. Unfortunately, given the layout of my house and the pickiness of my wife, the corner option is the only acceptable solution. I will be calling around tomorrow to some shops to see what others have to say.
  2. I have a question for anyone who owns or is familiar with corner tanks. I recently ordered a 92 Corner by AGA/Aqueon. When it arrived, I noticed that the black platisc trim at bottom was not flush with the front of the tank (along the curved galss). There was a quarter-inch or more gap all the way around. I gave it back to the store as defective and they ordered another one that came in today and had the exact same problem. I've seen other 92 corners since the first tank arrived and all of them have had the glass flush with the trim, including the floor model at the store (unfortunately too beat-up to take). Given this, my question to those with corner tank experience is whether or not I should be concerned about this gap. If you're standing away from the tank, you probably wouldn't notice the gap itself, but my concern is that salt and other debris will collect in that space and be difficult to clean (making the gap noticible) and potentially harmful to the seal. I'm not sure if I'm being overly concerned or not, but I want to be confident that what I'm spending hundreds of dollars is not going to look bad and/or fail on me in a couple years. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you guys might have. ---Scott
  3. Guys, Thanks for the recommendations. After much consideration, I decided to build my own stand. Skinning a curved stand was my biggest concern, but I found a product designed to wrap a basement pole I think will be good. It's .5" strips of red oak on a flexible backing. Some corner moulding on the sides and thin casing on the top and bottom will make it all clean, but I'm trying to think of how to make the skin removable. I don't need the space under the stand as the sump is in an adjoining room, so I just need to get under there to ensure the drilled bulkheads are not leaking.
  4. I have a pseudo-DIY question. I'm upgrading to a 92 Corner tank and putting it in a room with wood furniture that is all stained dark brown/expresso. I would like the fish tank stand to match. However, I do not want to build a new stand. As such, I plan on purchasing the AGA stand that fits the tank and staining it myself. While I'll get the tank trimmed in Black, I'm assume the best bet is to get the Natural Oak colored stand, for ease of stripping. I was wondering if anyone here had experience stripping and restaining a pre-manufactured stand. If so, which products worked best? Thanks in advance for any thoughts you can pass along! ---Scott
  5. I am returning to the hobby after being on the sideline for a number of years. I previously had a 72 bowfront and am now moving up to 92 corner. I recognize there are some additional challenges for this shape of tank. I was wondering if anyone can provide their experience, particularly around the lighting. I'd like the most flexibility in terms of corals I'll be able to support, but also looking for relitively low-maintence, so will be sticking with hardy varieties. I'm current considering the 36" Coralife Aqualight Pro model with a 250w MH and 2x65w PC bulbs. Given my space constraints above the tank, I think this is the biggest out of a box unit I can get. Thoughts?
