  1. I had a very healthy and plump yellow tang for a couple years in my 45 until several years ago when amylodinium struck (for the LAST time!). It's only 36" x 12" surface area though, so I still will wait until I have a different tank. A tank then needs to be at least what area, and what kind of tang could go in it?
  2. For some reason I thought bangiis are now being captive bred... am I wrong?
  3. So far my BIG female tomato clown is leaving my new fridmani pseud. alone, but they've only been together a couple days. Fridmanis are supposed to be less aggressive than other pseuds.... I don't know about purples. I'm sure another clown wouldn't last 5 minutes with mine.
  4. Re: tang.... everyone says at least 75 even for the smallest. I REALLY want a tang, but haven't gotten one because people saying it. Do you think it depends on tank dimensions (which would make sense I think)?
  5. it's always good to hear about conscientious retailers
  6. well, last week I ordered a Salifert nitrate test which I'm waiting for....
  7. look very cool. I hope they don't starve :(
  8. and now we will be waiting for pics
  9. isn't xenia is the one that likes more nutrients in the water?
  10. Hmmm... doesn't look scary to me, it's a tree sprite. I'll change it. I just got a good look at the dottyback for the first time since yesterday - tail is just about all gone... I didn't know that damsel was THAT mean. People with small tanks have complained of catching damsels. This damsel swam out into the open instead of into the rockwork - the trick I believe is to hand feed the fish, because this one only gets food by me having my hand in the tank to hand feed the clowns.
  11. So, why can't you guys who are stuck with damsels catch them? I have not had to catch a damsel in a long time, and hearing all your stories, I thought I was going to have to take the tank apart. I took out only the top 3 rocks and caught the damsel in the first swoop. The damsel chased the daylights out of the dottyback the first time I turned the lights on after putting them together, so I turned the lights out and went after the damsel today. AFTER I caught him, I decided that the re-rockscaping job I did yesterday before putting the fish together, was not so great, and proceeded to spend a couple hours trying to re-do it, and it's now worse. It's just going to have to be a mess for a while. BUT can't blame the damsel!
  12. it's like trying to make things better backfired - i get so frustrated in those situations I'm sorry your having this big mess and this loss with your tank :(
  13. so sorry! you're one of the last people I would think would be going out :( so are you even going to be continuing the nano projects or are those out too?
  14. I had emerald crabs before the couple hermits and they got rid of green hair algae suprisingly fast. Ah, ok. I thought is was in the water that is sometimes in frozen food (it separates out if the stuff thaws a little, so I know it's there). My new skimmer is working great now, so it's keeping loose particles out of the water (I had no idea how great these things are.... I should have spent my money on it a long time ago instead of a filter that I didn't know would be a nitrate sink!). I have no measurable phosphate. Good analogy with the hotdogs. One more reason to be a vegetarian!
  15. what I'd also like, after I've successfully (hopefully) managed to have thngs large enough to frag, that someone would host a hands-on fragging kind of educational thing, where we can bring our own corals that are all ready for it.
  16. Hmm.... now I'm thinking part of my nitrate issue going on and on has been because I wasn't always rinsing frozen food. Do you know if emerald entree needs to be rinsed? It's got greens in it so I was thinking it didn't, and was only rinsing frozen brine "sometimes" (used the encapsulated stuff - I've been thinking it's better nutritionally than the regular stuff - is it?). Im not using those things anymore since I've got all the food from the foodmaking party, which will last me a very, very long time. I have been assuming it doesn't need to be rinsed, but am I wrong?
  17. I vote for it too, but Please someone in my area host it!
