  2. It looks like some sort of sci-fi cartoon character. Wow! Tracy
  3. When I lost a clown and added a juvie, he was the one to find the anemone too, and the resident female followed. I wonder if adding a juvie to an established tank helps them seek out/host in the anemone more quickly.... for protection from all of the "bully" fish. Tracy
  4. How fun! I bet your zoas miss the ol' girl...if I remember, wasn't she hosting in those? Tracy
  5. Ratz! I was just there last week and didn't see any. Will ask Sean to call me if he gets more. How is it doing? I worry that I don't feed my fish enough for an anthias, but of course...could change that if I got one. Is it okay to have just one of them? Sean does such a great job QT'ing and making sure the fish are eating properly. Everyone talks about how difficult it is to keep Potter's Angels, but the one I got from him has been going strong for....hmmmm.... a year and a half now. Tracy
  6. I was going to go with "diatoms". Tracy
  7. Francis, Where did you get the Borbonius? I would LOVE to have one of those!! Might have to come visit, next time I am over at F&F Tracy
  8. I'm going to suggest, in addition to regular water changes and siphoning what you can, that you reposition those koralias. You can't just "point" them at the problem like you can with a maxijet...the flow is too dispersed. Here's what you need to do: -move them much higher in the tank (mine are at about the top 1/3 mark of the tank). The surface of the tank should look like it is on a slow, rolling boil. -position them so that they are pointing toward the surface of the water, toward each other, and toward the front glass, all at the same time. This produces maximum dispersion of the flow, and a very strong downward current. Have any doubts? Put a chunk of gsp or something down on the sand, and see what happens as you reposition the powerheads. The increased air exchange and better overall flow will help eradicate the cyano. I haven't had any since I got my koralias positioned properly. Oh, and I take those flow/guard things off too. Good luck, Tracy
  9. Nothing like a good old fishy "time out" to restore law and order! Tracy
  10. Years ago, before I got into this hobby myself, I set up a "nemo" tank for my nephew/godson. Little Nemo and Dory (a blue damsel) lived for years, in a little boy's room, without too much maintenance. They may have lived longer than 5-6 years if any of us knew what we were doing. Heck.... "serious" hobbyists go through fish more rapidly. I've certainly lost more than two fish in a much shorter timeframe. It was a 10g set up with whatever standard hood/light came with it, sand, and a biowheel filter. It even had (gasp) a plastic martian-like little cave, which was replaced over the years with a shipwreck, shark head, etc.... (whenever it got too yucky for my sister in law to want to clean it) LOL Heck, I use PVC tubes in my QT....a plastic shark head is more interesting. LOL We added a few snails and hermits for clean up and added interest. Then, when you have the resources to really launch into the hobby, you can just use the 10G for a QT. Tracy
  11. Thanks all! The green monti though is starting to cause problems. It's about 8" across and is shading everything under it. It is firmly encrusted on an 18" piece of tonga branch. It would be a shame to frag it, as it is so big and perfect, but I have no idea who would want such a huge thing, or how they could ever transport it. I'll have to work this out somehow, before it fills in the whole top of the tank! LOL
  12. I had a clownfish "twitch" itself out of the tank at night....sleeping up in the corner. Once they began hosting in the anemone though...hasn't happened since. So sorry for your loss, though...that's a real bummer! Maybe LFSs can start selling "hosting Picassos" and their anemones for even bigger bucks! Tracy
  13. For all that trouble, what would be the advantage over a simple morning dose of two-part? Tracy
