New 80g build. Have been out of the hobby for 10+ years. Ideas are welcome!!

Hi Guys,

 

As stated, I have been out of the hobby for a while (approx. 12 years) and I am looking to get back with a vengeance. I have space to set up 40x20x24in tank. I plan to make it a mixed lps, softie tank. I'm personally not into SPS but my wife might want to cram an acro or a clam in there. I already noticed that, although reefing is basically the same as 10years ago, there are some technological and price breakthroughs to be had.

 

My main concerns tight now are as follows:

 

1. Lighting. I plan on going LED but it's all new to me. I am planning on LPS and maybe a forced SPS or clam. Seems LED would be a fit but I would appreciate any recommendations. AI's seem like a good fit but how many?

 

2. Recommendations on tank builders in the area. I plan on having internal-corner overflow. Probably Durso but open to suggestions considering the size of my build.

 

3. I will probably build my own stand with 2x4's and IKEA panels for a finish. Do you guys recommend plywood top and bottom?

First of all, welcome back!

 

Don't do a Durso. A "beananimal" is far superior.

 

You should also consider doing a low-profile inside/outside overflow box like the Shadow instead of a corner overflow box.
