madweazl January 19, 2018 Share January 19, 2018 Return pump was making a bit of vibration noise so I grabbed the plumbing and wiggled it; apparently I wiggled it too hard and pulled the hose off the snout of the pump. I got everything under control with only about two gallons of water escaping... I'm awake now!
tom39 January 19, 2018 Share January 19, 2018 Ouch! Did it at least fix the sound issue? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

zygote2k January 19, 2018 Share January 19, 2018 no hose clamps on soft connection?
AlanM January 19, 2018 Share January 19, 2018 Haha, did it geyser up into the room? I regularly lose water onto the floor when I drop a pump into the sump with some tubing attached to transfer water into a bucket and the water pressure pushes the hose out of the bucket. You'd think I would learn, but no.
madweazl January 19, 2018 Author Share January 19, 2018 no hose clamps on soft connection? No, I never did put a clamp on that connection (barely got the thing on at the time). Also, the return pump was pushing significantly less water at the time it was set up (roughly 3x vs about 8x now) so it didn't shoot water up and out of the sump at the time. Regardless, good reason to drop a hose clamp on it now LOL. Haha, did it geyser up into the room? You'd think I would learn, but no. Oh yea, it was impressive! Not exactly what I was thinking and saying at the time but it was pretty funny. Salinity was a bit high yesterday (35.25) so that was probably resolved LOL.
WheresTheReef January 19, 2018 Share January 19, 2018 You need a plastic clamp? What size hose? I can dig through my clamps and see if I have that size. Going to the meeting?
madweazl January 19, 2018 Author Share January 19, 2018 I do need to grab a plastic clamp for it; I'll have to measure when I get home. Yep, planning on attending the meeting Appreciate the offer.
YHSublime January 19, 2018 Share January 19, 2018 There is a cautionary tale here. I used a stainless steel clamp on my return pump. I read a lot about it, but intended to swap it out eventually, just wanted to get cycling. Of course I forgot about it until now. You need a plastic clamp? What size hose? Thanks for jogging my memory! I got them from BRS. Not too expensive. I keep several spares just in case. Might have one for your pump depending on hose size. WheresTheReef January 20, 2018 Share January 20, 2018 Tubing is 1.25" O.D.Looks like I mostly have 3/4" clamps left. They only go up to 1 1/8" on the first lock. Sorry, I don't think it would work for you. Sounds like you're using 1" hose? I must have given away all my bigger clamps already. This is where I got them. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/ratchet-clamp-for-tubing-1-6684828461f4e5bda1e2a33b5e0db6d3.html

Origami January 23, 2018 Share January 23, 2018 In a pinch, I've found that good-sized zip ties can be used very effectively to keep flexible hose on barb couplings. You just need to make sure that you cinch them down nice and tight.
