Reefoholic October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 Hey Guys, I need some help with my CS1 skimmer. It has been running for some time now and it is still going a little crazy, to the point that I cannot even place the collection cup on the skimmer since it overflows. The skimmate is very wet. I see a decent amount of bubbles in the cone and the water line in the SUMP is a little above where the cone starts. Am I doing something wrong? What is the optimal water level? Thanks, Matt
AlanM October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 Is the output valve all the way open? Are you running it as a recirculating skimmer with a feed pump and the Sicce input and output both in the base plate or as a once-through skimmer with the Sicce input not connected to the base plate? If recirculating you may need to tweak the amount of water that the feed pump is delivering or the position of the output valve.
ctenophore October 26, 2016 Share October 26, 2016 Hi Matt, Which model CS1 do you have? Can you post a picture of it running? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
Reefoholic October 27, 2016 Author Share October 27, 2016 (edited) THANK YOU both for your quick responses. Is the output valve all the way open? I have it setup as the Sicce hooked up to the skimmer cone and there is nothing attached to the output. I added an extension pipe around 4" long and added an elbow to that to silence the output as much as possible. Hi Matt, Which model CS1 do you have? Can you post a picture of it running? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk I have the first ever model I think. Below are some pics. As you can see, the moment I bring the air intake below the collection cup level, the pressure must build up in the skimmer cone that the skimmate actually overflows. Also, since the muffler is not connected to the air-tube anymore, the skimmer runs so very loud. I hope I can tweak it somehow, and not have to get a new skimmer since I just got a new pinhead propeller for the Sicce. I appreciate your help very much! Thank you dudes! ctenophore October 27, 2016 Share October 27, 2016 A few things to check: make sure the output tube isn't below the water level, otherwise vapor locking can occur and create backpressure inside the output tube. Also, you might try to unscrew the valve so the plunger comes out. If you can safely saw off or otherwise remove about 1/2" of that cylinder, the skimmer will be able to drain easier. Why is the silencer not attached? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk

When i keep it up next to the collection cup, it seems to be working fine. Any thoughts? I could order the spare parts for the The output pipe is not below water level. Per your suggestion, I might try to cut off the cylinder some and see how it goes. I will also remove the extra piping off the output tube so that there is no vapor locking. Thanks for the tips! Reefoholic October 30, 2016 Author Share October 30, 2016 Guys, I figured out exactly what was wrong with the skimmer. A piece of the sponge in the silencer was stuck in the air tubing thus creating all the unnecessary pressure and vapor locking. I cleaned it out and now the skimmer works like a champ. Some pics. Thanks again everyone for all their help! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
