I personally just tested one with a full inch thick pane of glass (2 pieces of 1/2" sandwiched together) and it held. It's not extremely strong at 1", but it would hold a heater in place or hold a frag plug. At 3/4" it should still be a fairly strong hold - like enough to hold up a powerhead.
