Byprosis issue....use Mg?

So I have an issue with byprosis on some new rock I added to the tank.

Parameters:

0 Nitates

0 Phoshates

78.8 Temp

148 Alk

425 Ca

1350 Mag

All good, but still growing algae feathers. I've heard that the Kent M Tech no longer works for getting rid of byprosis. What I read was the changed the formula. Has anyone had luck using Mag to get rid of it?

I used the Kent Tech-M for the first gallon and decided that it was too expensive, so I switched to Home Depot brand Mg Chloride mixed with CVS Mg Sulfate (Epsom salt). It took approx 5 gallons over the course of 4 months to raise the Mg to 2100ppm. At around 1900, starfish died and I had issues with snails too.

Now, about 5 years later the Mg runs at normal levels and the Bryopsis will only grow in the teeth of the overflow box but it doesn't grow anywhere else.

Use generic and save your money.

what are the fish inhabitants in the tank?

If it now only grows on the teeth of the overflow, it sounds as though the inhabitants may now be able to keep it in check once you got it to a manageable level.

Inhabs may not be able to reach the overflow teeth but can reach the rocks or other growing surfaces inside tank.

Just as an update. I went with the Dino X method. After the last of the algae died off, I continued with 4 more doses. All is good and algae is gone. I had a bunch of stringers of dead algae, but sucked them up during a WC. No affect what so ever on my corals. The stuff is expensive but wow. Pretty cool. I have to say the first week I was doubting it would work. It didn't seem to be doing anything, but then BAM it did. I read on some threads that you should continue even after you think it is all dead. I did and it really worked. I stopped about a week ago, did a water change, turned on the carbon, and everything looks to be happy and healthy.

Highly suggest the Dino X from Fauna Marin. Formerly known as Ultra Algae X.
