Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and very addicted to reading as much as I can as I embark on my first reef set up. I've had a 120 freshwater (turtle) set up for 8 years, and saltwater always intimidated me. After staring at my empty bow front for 2 years, I finally took the financial plunge and ordered my equipment and thanks to Incredible Corals, got some amazing live rock to start cycling.

I then decided I wanted a new stand, so I began construction on that (I've overcome the girl in the hardware store awkwardness). I'll post pictures in the diy area later (my cell phone died and I've been a little off with the pictures for a day).

I figure if I posted hello in the forum then my build becomes "real"! :)

Lynz,

Welcome to WAMAS. I am about 5 months new to the forum as well, all I can say there are many friendly people here, They have been very helpful on answering a lot of my questions on my new built. All I can say is start slow and add slow. Patience is the key to a successful build. I still have lots to learn about this hobby but thanks to Tommy, JOHN, Big Sarge81 and YHsublime very helpful. In any case feel free to reach out to me im always happy to help out another reefer member. Good luck on the build.

Thanks! One of the reasons why I've been enjoying putting everything together, are the friendly people I've met at the vendor stores. Everyone seems really helpful and encouraging which is really helpful in taking the plunge :)

Welcome! I kept a red eared slider for 5 years, and bred African Sidenecks for years. I was also intimidated by saltwater, but now it's the bees knees. Look forward to pictures, start a build thread up, this is a great community, lots of knowledge floating about.

I was waiting for you to chime in!!! Jeeps, saltwater tanks, dogs, and your new hobby power tools!!!!! you have a new best friend

Lynz- Welcome! great bunch of people here, (sometimes even YHSublime  )   Figure out what is in all the forums of the website and how they work, and don't be afraid to ask stupid questions. No one will bite (maybe Zygote2k.....but that is it...even though he is a master at plumbing tanks.)

I have learned more info here then any place else. Enjoy.

Lynz,

Welcome aboard.  This is a great community.  Being a relative newbie myself I can attest to WAMAS and its members being a great resource to help you along the way.

After I left MACNA I spent a good two hours on my tank arranging/re-arranging, weekly maintenance, and of course being attacked by my female clown. The good news is that everything fit although the tally is currently Me:0 Nem:1 since she's refused to come out of her basket and attach to anything else (although it's extending beautifully... when I can see it through the basket).

Lynz,

Glad more Alexandria folks around. Am right off 395 King Street exit.

Lemme know if you're in area and have questions, need help, or just wanna stop by. Always something fragged in my tank to be given away to fellow wamas.

Derek

The nem must really love the basket. Try moving it or putting it in a shaded area to encourage it to move if you want to get it out of there. It may go on the move in your tank, though, until it finds a place it likes.

BTW, thank you again for being one of our tireless MACNA volunteers!

Oh MACNA was so much fun! I had none of the burdens of planning and execution and all of the satisfaction of meeting other members and talking to people who are crazy about their tanks :). Basket nem, aka martini since she's a lemon drop, was flipped upside down in said basket in a low light/low flow area for a couple of weeks. Then i tried higher up. I even "encouraged" it to move a few times using various methods of gentle nail encouragement, powerhead placement, and aloud readings of self help books. With moving on the horizon and 3 weeks of stubbornness, I've officially given up and she's happy in the basket, clipped to the side of the tank, with the neighboring live rock (also in the basket) that she's dutifully ignoring. Ok, now I sound like a total crazy person.
