LRS Reef Frenzy - NANO

I know everyone says it's the best stuff since sliced bread, but so far, I'm on the fence.  I bought a nano lrs frenzy pack a couple of weeks ago.  I am happy with the price (thanks ERC), and the size of the product.  I am happy with the listed ingredients.  However, in my 29g biocube, I have 3 small fish, and they are really not interested in the reef frenzy.  If I put ocean nutrition prime flakes into the tank, they go nuts.  If I put reef frenzy in, they don't. They might pick at a piece of two, but that's it.  I wonder if my fish are "conditioned" to flake food?  Or maybe the three fish I have don't like meaty/seafood products? (clownfish, cardinal, and chromis).  The other concern I have is the size of the product pieces once dethawed.  When I used Jan's frozen food, when dethawed, there were tons of tiny pieces after you stirred the dethawed food with your finger in a small container.  But if you try that with reef frenzy, it doesn't break up into tiny pieces.  If you mash on the dethawed piece and really work at it, you can break it up, but the pieces are still chunk-sized.  (Larry replied on FB that the size of the pieces is a "personal preference." He thinks it breaks up into pieces that are too small.)

So, ultimately, if I used this product in a large tank, with more fish that maybe preferred meaty food, or larger pieces, I don't doubt reef frenzy going over well with the tank.  But from a nano-perspective, where tiny pieces are a must, I'm not sold on the product.  Do any of you use it on a NANO tank and have your fish go crazy?  Or does it turn into tiny pieces for you, and maybe I just got a chunky batch?

I bought a pack of Reef Frenzy and a pack of Fish Frenzy when they came out. I wanted to see the difference between the two and other food that I feed them. I have a 16g nano with a Snowflake Clown, PJ Cardnial, and a Royal Gramma. Also a 50g holding tank with 4 more clowns and an Anthias.  I feed them all the same stuff at the same time, with the holding tank getting  4 additional auto feeding a day of New Life Spectrum Thera +A. The Reef Frenzy seemed to work better with the smaller pieces, I think the Fish Frenzy, which is designed for larger fish has a little too large pieces for the fish I have, but I chop it up a little with a spoon after it defrosts, and they pretty much go nuts over it. Except for one chunk of something, looks like maybe clam or something, which they dodge till nothing is left, but then the clowns will eat it.

I think feeding whole food to the fish is kind of like people eating whole foods. Probably is a little better for you. I will usually feed the pellets when I am gone and a friend looks after the tank just to make his life easier. The other thing I like is that I see almost no cloudy water when I just break a piece off and let it defrost in water. Other products I feel like I need to strain and rinse the food, so that is a bonus for me and the tank.

I feed reef frenzy in my system and my fish do go nuts for it. There are more small pieces than other frozen foods I've used and I haven't noticed even my small mouth fishes have any issues with it. I do feed frozen almost daily - always have. My Dad doesn't feed frozen as often and his fish didn't go for the new frozen food quite so wild at first. I think fish get accustomed to a certain type of food so that could be part of the problem you experienced. Or maybe my fish are just pigs because they seem to go nuts for just about anything I put in the tank. Heck, even the meat eaters seem to get excited when I put nori in the tank! haha

Hey Ryan, I posted something like this a while back also. I still have about 1/2 of a package and the only reason I'm still using it, is because my copperband actually eats it. Most of the big chunks get tugged at for a bit and then all the fish lose interest as the stuff falls into the rock work for the cleaner shrimp. I find spending a premium on frozen foods for my CUC to eat is a little excessive, so I'm going back to Rod's and feeding Scott711's homemade stuff. As far as the copperband goes, hopefully he'll eat the Rod's, but if not he eats PE Mysis from my hand.

My copperband rips beats my tangs down for it when I broadcast feed. It will rip into big chunks like nobody's business, and will peck at my fingers looking for more. All my other fish eat it from my hands as I unthaw it in tank.

My two small clowns and firefish absolutely love the nano frenzy. Even while in QT on Cupramine when they didn't want to eat anything else. Thumbs up from me!

I use it in my overstocked nano, and the two young clowns, yasha goby, and pair of ruby reds love the stuff. Some of the chunks are too big for the yasha and ruby reds, but the clowns go to town. That said, I also mix it with cyclopleeze and enriched brine and transfer pods from my main every few days for the reds.

In my main, everything goes crazy for the stuff: clowns, anthias, yellow tang, randall goby, even my mandarin gets in on the action when I spot feed him.
