edress714 November 21, 2014 Share November 21, 2014 What's the best way to add sand to my tank? The power heads moved all the sand from the middle of the tank. TIA!
smallreef November 21, 2014 Share November 21, 2014 (edited) I'm assuming you've reaimed the powerheads to not repeat that? And then to add sand I have always used a cup, fill it with sand and then slowly dip in the tank to get some water in the cup...with your hand over the top take it down to the bottom and pour it where you want it...it causes less clouding that way when I've done it compared to me being lazy and pouring in sand from the bag at the top of the tank, lol Edited November 21, 2014 by smallreef
Origami November 21, 2014 Share November 21, 2014 You can also get a length of PVC pipe (2 or more inches wide) and use it to direct new sand to the bottom where you want it. Be aware that sometimes when you add new sand, you'll see a bit of a diatom bloom. Normally nothing to worry about as it passes in a short time. (I'll sometimes use a similar technique to add a new fish into my tank, placing it near some cover so that he can shelter without getting picked on from the outset.)
