Myers71 July 31, 2014 Share July 31, 2014 Need help with diagnosis. Have a new flame since last Friday. Generally doing well, eating mysis, grazing and just today saw it eating my lawnmowers poo ! I have been seeing some white discoloration, its lips and on one side. See pics below. Any ideas? Trying to figure out if i try and move it to QT or ride it out. It is in my DT (see my previous thread for tribulations adding new fish). Pics today (best i can do with point and shoot Sony): Pic from Friday
Coral Hind July 31, 2014 Share July 31, 2014 I'm not sure about the lips but it looks like an external bacteria infection on the side. It is common to show up in the area behind those fins. I would watch it for now to see if it spreads.
Myers71 July 31, 2014 Author Share July 31, 2014 Thanks that's where I was leaning. The lips thing I have seen come up in other forums sounds like it has been more common lately. But no definitive answers.
sen5241b August 1, 2014 Share August 1, 2014 (edited) I've bacterial infections develop from poor water quality. After a water changed I saw an immediate improvement in the fish's condition. What are your nitrates? Edited August 1, 2014 by sen5241b
gmerek2 August 1, 2014 Share August 1, 2014 Lymphocytis virus? if it looks like that then it should clear up on its own with less stress and better water quality. http://www.chucksaddiction.com/disease.html
Myers71 August 2, 2014 Author Share August 2, 2014 Nitrates are zero. I am going to wait it out. Doesn't seem to be getting worse, maybe a little better tonight. Behavior is fine, very active and inquisative.
