Squishie89 April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 So my female strawberry crab just spawned. There are hundreds of babies swimming around. I put some in a cup in the sump to try and keep. Anyone want to give them a try? If they are around tomorrow I can get more out as well. Not sure with 3 pod eating fish and numerous corals how many will last. Squishie89 April 23, 2014 Author Share April 23, 2014 Somehow the babies I saved and put into a cup last night are still alive. Come on people, raise some baby crabs! Interesting fact I found out last night is that female strawberry crabs can store sperm, similar to guppies, to fertilize eggs later on without a male present! That sure makes sense since I only have one strawberry crab!
Coral Hind April 23, 2014 Share April 23, 2014 This is very cool! How long have you had the mother crab?

Sharkey18 April 28, 2014 Share April 28, 2014 Also, what is involved in raising baby crabs? I wouldn't even know where to start...

Squishie89 April 29, 2014 Author Share April 29, 2014 That is really super awesome. Thanks for sharing the pics. I couldn't not take pics! It was so cool. Also, what is involved in raising baby crabs? I wouldn't even know where to start... I believe it is similar to most fry; low flow, live rotifiers, kriesel would be best. How are the baby crabs doing? Well no one came to get any. I have not seen any (have not really been looking though. As far as I know they all died or became food. I managed to keep some alive for about three days in a cup (no flow, no air stone, no food) that I put in the sump, but they were obviously dying by day 3. JR-Tanked150 April 29, 2014 Share April 29, 2014 I would have liked to try and raise some, but have never breed anything before and wouldn't have a clue on what to do. Let me know if she has babies again, I might have to make a long drive up there and try it.

I would look at other crab breeding/fry raising that are more common. I know though live rotifiers are needed and a low flow container. They can swim once hatched, but if in high flow they cannot "land" anywhere. I saw them laying down when in the cup. They're also attracted to light. But yeah, I will let you know. I think she finally finished having the babies last night (I have no idea, don't ask).
