Kyle's 75g build

Recommended Posts

I joined WAMAS about 7 months ago and i think it's finally time for a build thread. I started with a 56g corner tank that I got from a friend back in August 2013. After buying all the equipment and live rock, and setting it all up, it was taken down after one week and replaced with a 75g reef ready. I knew basically nothing about saltwater tanks when i started the 56g. After getting it all set up I quickly realized that the corner style was not going to do it for me. I then got the 75g and all the equipment to go with it. While trying to find more live rock to fill the 75g I ended up at Quantum Reefs and the rest is history.

Thank you! I figured out right away that not doing research only leads to disappointment. I learned a few lessons the hard way, but since joining here I have learned that without patience and research I won't get very far.

Great setup, great lesson learned! Thanks for starting up a build! That's a nice stocklist with corals and fish you have there, I'd love to see some closer shots!

Thank you! I'm still trying to figure that part out. The camera I have takes worse pics than the phone. I have a few decent ones I'll post up later, and I'll try to figure out how to get some better ones as well. I have a few more build pics I need to add to.

FANTASTIC!!

I am looking forward to your grow out  :bb:

Thank you! It took a while but I'm at the point now where I'm noticing new growth fairly regularly.

Tank looks really nice. Is the Marine Betta reef safe? I read that it eats small shrimps and fish.

ThanI you. I haven't had any problems with the betta that I can say for sure was him. I had a few peppermint shrimp disappear but I honestly don't think he was responsible. I put a couple really small feeder fish in not long ago and he had no interest in them at all.

A few pictures that are worth sharing to give an idea of how the tank is stocked. I need to invest in a decent camera soon. Cell phone cameras do no justice for these, but decent pictures are better than none. Will try to get some more pictures up soon. I have a few more from the tank build I need to add also.

Alright folks....I wish I had taken pictures of this "build" as it was happening, but unfortunately I knew nothing about WAMAS, and build threads, and all the other helpful things that pictures would have been good for. But....I recently picked up a 120g that i will be setting up hopefully sooner rather than later and will start a new full build thread on.

Back to reality now with the current setup. Based on my inexperienced opinion this tank seems to be doing great! I've been wanting to upgrade my skimmer for almost as long as the tank has been up, and I finally got it done. I ended up going with the RLSS R6-I, it's only been running for 2 days but so far I couldn't be happier with it. Other than that it's pretty much been on cruise control. I have added quite a few corals over the last several months, so I'll get some pictures of those up along with some of the others that I never posted.

Finally got the chance to meet Isaac (YHSublime) and see the amazing setup he has going on! Very Impressive! Here are a few of the frags I picked up from him. There are a couple more also but I wasn't able to get a good enough picture of them. Will have to try again tomorrow along with some recent pics of a few of these that have started encrusting already. All are very healthy are growing really well!

I won an ERC auction for a gold torch not long ago and decided to take a little drive to pick it up and finally get to see what they had to offer. I'm glad I did! The quality of the corals is amazing! Unbelievable products and top notch people! Took another trip out there last weekend and added some really awesome pieces!

I've been wanting a scoly for a long time and finally decided to give it a shot. These are awesome!! Definitely won't be my only one. This picture was taken after lights out.

Also picked up a really nice acro mini colony from Marco recently! Great guy as well! Great experience all around with ERC!

The picture does not do justice to the acro. I have a hard time getting a really good picture of it, as it it a really light green color. It looks so much better in person.

Thank you sir! I love the color of the clam. It has so much more color than the picture shows. i finally got a good camera, I just haven't figured it out good enough yet to use the pictures from it. I've been using that orange filter you gave me and my cell phone for all my pictures still.

Thank you! I would like to have it set up in the next month or so hopefully, but we'll see how things play out. I'll get another build thread started up soon.
