Braden's 375 Gallon Total System Volume Build

Recommended Posts

Hello All;

After moving homes and taking down my last reef it is time to start building a new one!!! Total elapsed time: Less than one week. This new build is going to incorporate some of the same hardware (sump, frag tank, skimmer, etc) but is also featuring a brand new Marineland 250 DD tank with stand and canopy. The tank will be on the opposite side of the wall from the support hardware with the plumbing being piped through. The tank is in place currently but it's just sitting there. Pics of the tank and the move will be uploaded shortly!

Man it was like 6 months ago (ok maybe a little longer) you were over my place getting some frags after the kalk episode...Glad to see you back up so quickly....i really wanted that 250 just glad i didnt.

Cant wait to see some pics....hope you and the wife are doing well.

are you reusing the equipment or?? love to see a listing....

oh and are you goign to get an even bigger clam now...with 36 inch deep tank you need at least a 38-40 inch clam.

The "Kalk Episode" was last August timeframe and that was a crushing setback. But I think the tank recovered nicely and all the subsequent inhabitants have found good homes. I am re-using some of the equipment but there is going to be a couple of new editions such as 250w halides, biodenitrators, MP40W's, and the new addition of a "man room". I'll work on a complete equipment listing and will have it posted soon

I'm not sure if I am going to get a bigger clam or not. That bad boy grew alot in my last system. Too big to fit into a 5 gallon bucket when I sold him! Had to drag him around in a freakin' cooler. But there definitely will be more than a few clams in this new build.... Stay tuned!!

Looking forward to following along.

You may want to consider a 75gpd or 150gpd membrane rather than the 100gpd. The 100gpd has a much lower rejection rate leading to having to go through DI resin faster...

Roni; I loved the LEDs and will be going back to them as soon as my wife lets me. I wasn't sure how soon I was going to be getting a new tank and also was not sure what tank I would be getting. Sooner or later, I'm going to get A.byrnes to help me with a massive DIY build. But that will be after the initial tank is setup.

@Bowie- I've thought about changing the membranes but I think I will go with what I have. I'm on a very tight budget and trust me, the wife acceptance factor has gone down alot when I pulled up with a 250 DD! Thanks for the info though!

Yea, I hear you. I am going to be setting up a 115gal, and it took a LOT of convincing... (Actually I just ordered it blush.gif )

Just remember, its always easier to beg for forgiveness, than ask for permission.

First, I would like to thank Piper27 for his help in moving this tank. It's great to have friends that you can call on when needed to move large pieces of glass and silicone around. The second truck came in handy too! I purchased the tank, stand, and canopy from another WAMAS member and needed to move it from his basement to mine. I ended up hiring two additional movers to help as the tank is large and quite heavy.

I tried to get the 300 but the wife nixed that one pretty quick (price) and the one on Wamas didn't have a stand or canopy. Kinda glad I got the 250 as the room is a bit more cramped than I anticipated!! Pics to follow shortly!

Did you get the stock marineland canopy? If so, the 250w MHs won't fit inside. How are you going to use them with the canopy? Any thoughts yet on that?
